Mediacom Communications announced on Thursday that it has begun offering multi-gig and symmetrical broadband services to nearly 12,000 households in Clinton, Iowa, marking an expansion of the company’s high-speed offerings in the region.
The new packages include a 300 Mbps tier (300 Mbps down/100 Mbps up), a 1 Gig symmetrical tier (1,000 Mbps down/1,000 Mbps up), and a 2 Gig Unlimited tier (2,000 Mbps down/1,000 Mbps up).
Recent upgrades were additionally delivered over Mediacom’s fiber-rich network without the need for extensive new construction, the company stated.
The company also said it is offering an Advanced Wi-Fi package that uses eero’s TrueMesh technology.
Beau Hicks, Mediacom’s senior director of area operations, framed the expansion as part of a broader effort to bring “cutting edge technologies to the small cities and towns we serve.”
Hicks invited Clinton residents to an open house at a new Mediacom office on South 25th Street the week of October 27. He said customers could meet company representatives and also learn more about the new services.
The company will continue to offer a subsidized plan, Xtream Connect, which provides 100 Mbps down/20 Mbps up for $14.99 per month plus any modem rental for qualifying households, Mediacom’s release said.
According to Mediacom, the plan is available to households that participate in a number of federal assistance programs, including SNAP, Medicaid and the National School Lunch Program, a move intended to maintain access options for lower-income residents amid the rollout of faster, higher-priced tiers.
