Storm star Tyran Wishart is set to test his value on the open NRL market in another blow for the Melbourne Storm, while superstar Warriors halfback Luke Metcalf is set to do the same. The Storm are currently juggling a number of players coming off contract with the issue mounting after their loss in the NRL grand final.

Cameron Munster’s future at the club has been a talking point with the five-eighth linked to a move to the Perth Bears. Ryan Papenhuyzen is also only contracted to the club until the end of next season and has been linked to a number of rivals. And to make matters worse, the re-signing of Jahrome Hughes allowed Jonah Pezet to trigger a clause in his contract and negotiate with rivals.

And now to make matters worse, The Daily Telegraph reports Tyran Wishart is going to test his worth on November 1 in a blow to the Storm. The Storm took up Wishart’s contract offer to keep him at the club in 2026, but his deal ends there.

Bellamy values Wishart’s versatility with the Storm star featuring 27 times in 2025. However, most of these appearances were off the bench. And this could be the problem for the 25-year-old.

Wishart could be keen to get a start at another club with more time on the field. While often used as a utility, Wishart has proven himself in the halves and played in the No.7 jersey during consecutive wins over the Broncos, Panthers and Bulldogs late in the 2025 season.

Wishart’s potential move is a worrying sign for the Storm as club chairman Matt Tripp looks to lock down coach Bellamy beyond 2026 with the veteran linked with his own move to the Gold Coast Titans. And the Storm are not the only team facing concerns over some of their big names.

Luke Metcalf set to test market after huge offer

Metcalf was arguably the form halfback of the NRL competition until suffering an ACL injury that ended his season in round 17. The 26-year-old caught the attention of plenty of rivals during this run and has now been linked with the Dragons and Perth Bears after The Daily Telegraph also reported he will test the open market.

The Warriors reportedly tabled a two-year deal for the halfback who is currently on $550,000. But Metcalf could fetch close to$1 million on the open market considering halfback’s are a premium commodity. The halfback appears keen to speak to rivals before making a decision, which could also drive up his price at the Warriors.

While the Dragons and Bears would be keen to bring over the 26-year-old talent, it is hard to see the New Zealand star leaving. Metcalf was recently married and plenty of his teammates and Warriors staff members were at the wedding. Metcalf is believed to be recovering well from his ACL injury, which is the second of his short career.
