A viral post by Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, has ignited a heated discussion about the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare after he shared how Grok, the chatbot developed by xAI, outperformed a doctor’s judgment. The incident, which gained traction when Elon Musk weighed in, highlights both the potential and the risks of using AI for medical purposes.
Current state of the medical establishment:
Brought a friend to the ER for a high fever.
Put their symptoms into Grok.
Grok told me to ask for 4 tests.
Doctor said 1 of them is unnecessary.
I insisted we do them all.
Test came back positive on the one he didn’t want to do.

Bier recounted an experience where he accompanied a friend to the emergency room for a high fever. “Current state of the medical establishment. Brought a friend to the ER for a high fever. Put their symptoms into Grok. Grok told me to ask for 4 tests. Doctor said 1 of them is unnecessary. I insisted we do them all. Test came back positive on the one he didn’t want to do,” Bier wrote on X.
The post, which reached millions, sparked widespread reactions, with some praising AI’s accuracy and others questioning the reliability of AI in critical healthcare decisions.
Always check with @Grok
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 24, 2025
Elon Musk, the owner of X and founder of xAI, amplified the conversation by responding, “Always check with @Grok.” His comment fueled further debate, with users sharing mixed perspectives.
“I checked my nieces symptoms with grok a couple of weeks ago (weird swelling in her finger) and grok noticed something weird about her nail that wasn’t super clear. went to hospital and she had an infected nail bed!” one user commented.
“Grok has been very helpful with veterinary issues in my household,” commented another.
“I had a health check up package at one of the premier international hospitals in Bangkok. The doctor said everything looked fine,” another revealed on Bier’s post. “This was about 18 months ago and I asked ChatGPT to review the results. It picked up three things he missed, two of which turned out to be significant. I check every medical result with Grok and often with Gemini and ChatGPT as well.”
