Unions have the right to enter schools to enlist and organise apprentices and trainees under a landmark Federal Court ruling that could turn TAFEs, high schools and universities into recruitment grounds at a time when unions are struggling to maintain membership.
Justice Geoffrey Kennett on Friday fined the National Electrical and Communications Association’s (NECA) training arm $30,000 for refusing to let Electrical Trades Union officials onto its premises to talk to apprentices, in breach of the Fair Work Act.
