The Los Angeles Dodgers and Ball State baseball alumnus Alex Call swept the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series to advance to the World Series.

After Friday night’s 5-1 series-clinching win, Call is primed to become the second former Ball State player to play in a World Series game. Merv Rettenmund, who played at Ball State in the mid-1960s, was the first Cardinal to make an appearance on Major League Baseball’s biggest stage. Rettenmund also become the first Ball State alumnus to win a World Series ring playing outfield for the Baltimore Orioles in 1970.

At this year’s trade deadline, the Dodgers acquired Call from the Washington Nationals. Since joining the Dodgers, Call has been a consistent contributor in the team’s postseason run. In four playoff games, the outfielder has gotten on base in six out of seven plate appearances earning a postseason batting average of .750 and on base percentage of .857.

The 2016 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-American was selected in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox. Call made his debut with the Cleveland Guardians in July of 2022.

The outfielder has tallied a career .242/.341/.371 slash line in 858 regular season at bats in the big leagues including a .267/.361/.385 line with 13 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 31 RBI and 72 runs scored in 110 games combined between time with the Dodgers and Nationals this year.
