Collingwood has thanked two 2023 premiership heroes who were not offered contracts for 2026.

The Collingwood Football Club would like to thank Mason Cox and Tom Mitchell after the pair were not offered contracts for 2026.

Cox joined the Club in 2015 from Oklahoma State University and became the first American to win an AFL Premiership in 2023.

Since making his debut in the 2016 Anzac Day clash, the ruck has gone on to play a total of 139 games in 11 seasons.

Mitchell joined Collingwood in the 2022 AFL Trade Period from Hawthorn, after six years in the brown and gold, and a further five at Sydney.

In his maiden year at the Pies, Mitchell played all 26 games, including the victorious 2023 AFL Grand Final, where he polled Norm Smith Medal votes.

With injury hampering the midfielder’s 2024 season, Mitchell returned to play consistent football in 2025, including four AFL outings where he averaged 23 disposals and six tackles.

General Manager of List and Talent Strategy Justin Leppitsch acknowledged the Premiership pair for their time at Collingwood.

“We thank Tom and Mason for their contribution to the Club. They are Premiership players who has left a significant mark on the Collingwood Football Club,” Leppitsch said.

“Tom joined us with already a wealth of experience and has been a great asset for our side and Club. Unfortunately, his injuries in season 2024 found him mostly out of the side for season 2025, despite still playing some great football.

“Still, his experience, knowledge, leadership and support for his fellow teammates will always be appreciated.

“Mason, who moved to the other side of the world to pursue a sport he had never played before, worked incredibly hard to learn the unique skills of Australian Rules. His dedication and commitment to Collingwood are a credit to the person he is.

“We understand that Mason and Tom are keen to explore AFL opportunities elsewhere. We wish them all the best for their future endeavours and hope another opportunity arises to continue their AFL careers.”
