Organised by the York Cycle Campaign, the glowing night-time bike ride will take place in the city on Wednesday, October 22, starting at 6.15pm from York Barbican.
It is one of 50 similar rides happening across the UK.
Robyn Jankel, chair of York Cycle Campaign, said: “Many people use York’s greener cycle routes to get away from intimidating traffic.
“At night they’re forced back onto busy roads that lack safe space or take their chances crossing very dark open spaces that don’t feel safe.”
The Glow Ride will follow a riverside route and cross through Hob Moor, ending at the Carlton Tavern in Acomb for a social gathering.
According to organisers, the event will feature music, prizes for the best-lit bikes, and a ‘party atmosphere’.
Cyclists of all ages are welcome, though under-16s must be supervised.
