MILWAUKEE— The Milwaukee sports community is mourning the loss of Duke Roufus, a world-renowned MMA coach, kickboxing champion, and founder of Roufusport MMA Academy. Roufus died in his sleep Thursday at the age of 55.
Roufus gamed international recognition as both a competitor and coach. After a decorated kickboxing career, he opened Rofusport near 76th and Bluemound in Milwaukee, where he trained some of the sport’s biggest names.. including former UFC champions Anthony Pettis, Sergio Pettis, Tyron Woodley, and Ben Askren. His gym also helped shape the careers of fighters like Rose Namajunas and CM Punk.
In a statement, longtime business partner Scott Joffe called Roufus “a mentor, innovator, father and friend whose influence transformed the landscape of mixed martial arts.”
Roufusport says it will continue to honor his legacy by carrying on the philosophy and culture he built. One rooted in respect, hard work, and family.
