It is windy in Austin, Texas

As of 30 minutes ago, the wind was blowing in the opposite direction to the action on Friday (local time).
The wind direction means there will be a headwind through a S section, turns three to six. That will help with downforce.
On the long straight, from turn 11 to 12, it will become a tailwind. That allows for higher top speeds, but makes braking more difficult.
1h agoSun 19 Oct 2025 at 6:30pmWhat do I need to know about the Circuit of the Americas?
The Circuit of the Americas sometimes looks like a homage to other great racing tracks around the world.
(F1)
Turns three to six are reminiscent of the high-speed run through Maggots and Becketts at Silverstone in the UK, and the famous S Curves driven at Suzuka in Japan.
Further in the lap, turns 12 to 15 are similar to the stadium section which is found in Hockenheim in Germany.
Turn one is a unique corner, however.
A steep uphill run along the start-finish straight leads to a tight left-hand hairpin where drivers can overtake on the inside and outside line.
1h agoSun 19 Oct 2025 at 6:20pmWhat are the pit strategy options for today’s race?
According to the boffins on the official F1 website, we could be in for a race of mixed strategies this morning.
In 2024, the one-stop was clearly the best strategy. Fifteen of the 20 drivers used one set of mediums and one set of hards for the grand prix.
What about today?
Well, a two-stop could be an option.
(F1)
You will read and hear about softs, mediums and hards.
In reality, tyre supplier Pirelli makes six different compounds of tyres —C1-C6 — and brings three of them to each race.
This weekend, they have brought the C1, the hardest compound of the lot.
So, that tyre will be very durable and makes the one-stop appealing and easier to achieve.
Those starting on the medium then changing to the hards are expected to stop between laps 20-26.
However, that hard tyre is much slower than the mediums (C3) and the softs (C4) this weekend.
So if a two-stop strategy possible using medium and soft tyres?
It certainly could be. Any driver on the two-stop strategy will be flying on track.
But will that pace be enough to overcome an extra stop in the pits?
