It’s been all quiet on the Virgin River front for the past few months since filming wrapped in Canada, but last week, we finally got some insight into the show’s future, covering both seasons 7 and 8.
Let’s begin with season 7, which is now confirmed for 2026, no doubt disappointing any fans who were hoping it might sneak in as a Christmas release. Alexandra Breckenridge has been on the press circuit promoting her upcoming Netflix film My Secret Santa, due out on December 3rd.
One such interview was with Entertainment Weekly, which published a portion of their interview with Breckenridge discussing all things Virgin River. The star discusses the big cliffhanger from season 6 and reveals her favorite cliffhanger for the season was Mike learning about Brie’s affair with Brady and still proposing. Meanwhile, Mel and Jack’s journey to parenthood continues in season 7 as they explore adoption and face new complications when Marley asks them to take her baby—a storyline Breckenridge says “does not disappear.”
As for when season 7 will arrive, Breckenridge hints Netflix will likely hold it until 2026, noting that Stranger Things’ final season will likely dominate the streamer’s 2025 lineup. The full quote was, “There is a lot going on this year for Netflix. The finale of Stranger Things as a series is going to be a big deal. If I was an intelligent person, guessing, I would say I wouldn’t roll Virgin River out until the new year.”

Virgin River Season 8 Filming Window Revealed?
First spotted by The Viewers’ Perspective, the website Charitybuzz may have revealed when season 8 of the show will go into production.
In case you missed it, Netflix has already confirmed season 8 of the show back in mid-July 2025, ahead of filming coming to an end. The show is coming back for another 10 episodes, and the WGA recently reported that the writer’s room for the new season is now officially open, with it labeled as the 2026-2027 season. That said, there’s been no word on a production start yet. We know many cast members have previously expressed a preference for filming during the Spring and Summer months (Canadian winters can be cruel!), and it looks like they’re getting their wish.
For those unfamiliar with Charitybuzz, the website lets you bid on or buy unique experiences in support of various charities. The full description for the Virgin River experience reads:
“Step into the world of Virgin River with an exclusive set visit for two, offering a rare behind-the-scenes experience on the beloved Netflix series. Join Benjamin Hollingsworth (Dan Brady) and Zibby Allen (Brie Sheridan) for an unforgettable insider’s look at the making of this fan-favorite drama.
Filmed amid the stunning landscapes of British Columbia, Virgin River captures the charm and spirit of small-town life that has captivated audiences worldwide. This unique opportunity allows fans to explore the authentic set, meet key cast members, and gain firsthand insight into the production of Season 8.
Perfect for devoted viewers and television enthusiasts alike, this exceptional experience brings the romance, drama, and scenic beauty of Virgin River to life—offering a truly memorable day in the heart of the show’s enchanting world.”

Perhaps most pertinent for those not intending to bid on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is the requirement to attend the private meet-and-greet between April 1st, 2026, and July 31st, 2026. While we can’t label these as the official filming dates, they do provide a very good window into when the eighth season will enter production, given that it’s a set visit…
If you want to bid on the meet-and-greet to support Melanoma Canada, you can do so through October 22nd, 2025 —be quick!
Moving purely into speculation, we’ve seen as of late that Netflix likes to debut new seasons shortly before production begins, and that has been the case for Virgin River in most prior seasons. If that’s the case here, don’t be surprised for a Spring return (maybe even in March or April).
