Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić recently had some fun at the expense of head coach JJ Redick in practice.

“JJ, you need some sun,” Dončić told Redick in a video posted by the Lakers (0:55 mark). “Please. You need some sun.”

While Redick explained that he doesn’t play golf anymore and spends most of his time in the team’s indoor facilities, the five-time All-Star wasn’t satisfied.

“You go on your balcony, for one hour every day,” Dončić said.

The two have a relationship dating back to Redick’s playing days, as the former shooting guard closed out the final year of his career as teammates with Dončić on the Dallas Mavericks during the 2020-21 season.

“I’ve always enjoyed being around Luka,” Redick said last season, via BasketNews.com. “He brings a certain level of joy, and I feel that joy—it gives me joy. Whether it was as a teammate, seeing each other at games, calling games, or even on a podcast, I’ve always appreciated our interactions.”

Dončić is entering his first full season under Redick as a coach after he was acquired by the Lakers in a blockbuster trade with the Mavericks on Feb. 2.

Los Angeles will open its 2025-26 campaign against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET.
