Duane Hatherly, longtime Head of Production at Foxtel, becomes Head of Editorial at Mediaweek.

Mediaweek has a new Head of Editorial in Duane Hatherly, a long time Foxtel producer who departed in 2019 after 19 years including as Head of Production.

He became General Manager, LifeStyle Channels and Head of Production in 2012 before being appointed as Head of LifeStyle Channels and Director of Production in 2014, overseeing such shows as Australia’s Next Top Model, Selling Houses Australia, Gogglebox, Project Runway Australia, Rove LA, SLiDE,  The Great Australian Bake Off and more.

For the past two years he has been a producer on 7News Spotlight.

Hatherly succeeds Frances Sheen, Head of Content who finished yesterday after a year in the role.

In the latest hiring and firing, Mediaweek also retrenched Editor Dan Barrett who succeeded founding editor James Manning, also let go by owners Vinyl late last year.

“I don’t feel that I was given the best framework to properly succeed in the role and to deliver a product worthy of the Mediaweek brand,” he told Mumbrella.

Sarah Chapman, Head of Editorial Operations at Vinyl Media, said, “We’re thrilled to welcome Duane to the team. His leadership, creative experience, and deep understanding of audiences make him the ideal person to guide Mediaweek’s editorial direction. We’re excited for the fresh perspective and momentum he’ll bring to this next chapter.”

Natasha Lee now leads Mediaweek’s newsroom and daily editorial operations as Media Editor, with editorial by Vihaan Mathur and contributors Makayla Muscat and Lauren McNamara who is also working across other Vinyl Media titles.
