Police arrested a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy at Glenroy station within half an hour of witnesses reporting the alleged crime to triple zero.
The younger male was charged with affray, intentionally causing injury and recklessly causing injury.
He was bailed by police to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
The 19-year-old male, from Heidelberg West, was released without charge pending further enquiries.
Witnesses described seeing other weapons, including a machete, during the attack, but police were unable to locate any other items of interest at the scene.
Broadmeadows station will have additional police presence in the coming days in response to the incident, as detectives continue to search for others involved in the brazen daylight stabbing.
Detective Sergeant Raynor Gunton said apprehending the outstanding offenders was a priority.
“This is sadly another example where young men have attended a public place in broad daylight armed with knives looking to cause trouble,” Gunton said.
“The victims in this incident were both children and are lucky their injuries were not more serious.”
