CINCINNATI (WXIX) – After making their long-awaited return to the playoffs, the Reds could make a splash in the offseason, but it’s one Cincinnati fans might not like.
Reds ace Hunter Greene could be traded this offseason, according to former Reds Jim Bowden, who is now with The Athletic.
Bowden put out a list of the top 10 MLB stars most likely to be traded this offseason.
At No. 3 on the list is the Reds’ hard-throwing pitcher.

Trading Greene could be seen as a head scratcher, given that he is only 26 years old and the Reds have him under contract through the 2029 season.
“I think it would be a huge mistake for them [Reds] to deal Greene, but we can’t ignore the rumors because they’re so loud and no one is denying them,” Bowden said.

Bowden said he has not been able to confirm the reports that Cincinnati plans to shop Greene on the trade market.
While Bowden said he does not understand why the Reds would want to trade Greene, he did offer up one explanation.
“One reason a trade might be considered is because of Greene’s durability issues; through his first four years in the big leagues, he’s never made 27 starts or pitched 160 innings,” Bowden wrote. “It’s possible that there is a medical risk that we don’t know about.”
After making the All-Star team in 2024, Greene started a career low 19 games because of injury.
Bowden said the Reds could get a “huge return” if they traded Greene.
The possible trade partners Bowden mentions include the usual big market teams and two others:
Los Angeles DodgersNew York MetsBoston Red SoxNew York YankeesBaltimore OriolesSan Fransico Giants
