Two childcare workers have been charged with allegedly assaulting a toddler multiple times at a Doonside centre in Sydney’s west earlier this month.

Police received a report on Monday detailing allegations that two workers at Little Zak’s in Doonside had repeatedly assaulted a young child at the Doonside centre on October 13.

A 28-year-old woman and a 54-year-old woman were arrested and charged yesterday following an investigation by officers from Blacktown Police Area Command.

They have each been charged with five counts of common assault.

Both women have been terminated by the childcare centre.

“We are deeply sorry about what is alleged to have happened to a child in our care,” Little Zak’s said in a statement.

The provider said that the two women were new to the centre, and that both had valid Working with Children Checks and no criminal records.

It is alleged that the toddler was thrown across the room and flicked.

The two women are set to appear before Blacktown Local Court on December 4.

The operator says it will review the level of care at its Doonside centre.
