Jarren Duran’s name has been popping up in trade rumors for years.
Is this the offseason that he’ll actually get dealt?
At The Athletic, former executive Jim Bowden ranked the Top 10 MLB stars most likely to be traded this offseason. Duran came in at No. 4, though Bowden said he personally didn’t get why the Red Sox would move the 29-year-old outfielder who is under team control through 2028.
“I’m not sure I understand why the Red Sox keep listening to offers for Duran, outside of the fact they envision their future outfield as Wilyer Abreu in right field, Ceddanne Rafaela in center field and Roman Anthony in left,” Bowden writes. “Why not keep Duran for DH? Or, better yet, why not let all four outfielders rotate between the outfield and DH? Regardless, Duran’s name keeps coming up in trade rumors and it now sounds like the Red Sox will move on from him this winter.”
Bowden went on to list the Phillies, Dodgers, Tigers, Guardians and Rangers as potential trade partners. In an offseason primer, MassLive’s Chris Cotillo also forecasted a Duran trade.
“The prediction here is that the Red Sox do move an outfielder, potentially Duran, in a trade for pitching, finding the perfect deal they’ve been pining for,” Cotillo said. “Anthony, Rafaela and Abreu are the starting outfielders with (Jhostynxon) Garcia, (Rob) Refsnyder and (Kristian) Campbell in the mix as backups. From there, (Craig) Breslow spends big on a big bat at DH, with (Kyle) Schwarber as the top candidate. (Masataka) Yoshida is playing elsewhere on Opening Day.”
