On Friday, Celtics guard Jaylen Brown said he believes the league has not done an adequate job preparing players for the new landscape brought on by legalized sports betting.
Here are some comments from our readers:
Edy S.: The fact that these players are getting a constant steam of horrifying, murderous, abuse via their cell phones and online accounts has GOT TO STOP. Personally, I would turn off my phone and never engage in social media again, but obviously that is not the solution.
Isso.23: I wouldn’t trade places. I have a great life, friends, work, community. My life is fulfilled. I love sports and I had known players in professional sports. Some really great guys but for most their careers are short and it’s a difficult lifestyle if you are not a star, starter or long term backup. Switching cities, risk of being cut …
Steve P.: I see a lot of comments on the amount of money these players make, but it doesn’t change the fact they are human beings.
Melissa H.: Seems like maybe the Union’s job? I don’t know, these guys make around my career earnings in their first year, I think they can afford to hire someone to teach them about why they shouldn’t throw games.
