The UFC heavyweight title fight between Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane in the main event of UFC 321 on October 25 ended in a no-contest after the latter accidentally poked Aspinall in the eyes in the opening round.
Aspinall wasn’t able to continue because of the severity of the eye poke and couldn’t see from the compromised eye. He was the UFC betting favorite to retain his belt heading into the championship match.Â
Despite this result, the defending champion still made the most money from the event with $3.5 million in payouts.
Four other fighters earned an additional $50,000 bonus with Valter Walker and Quillan Salkilld for the Performance of the Night award, while Ludovit Rebecki and Louie Sutherland secured the Fight of the Night award.
