The annual Perron Institute Media Golf Day, supported by Longreach Media, was held last week at Wembley Golf Course in support of the Institute and its groundbreaking research into youth mental health.
Each year, Perth’s media community comes together for a relaxed, Ambrose-style round of golf, with teams purchasing entry as a way to directly support the cause. Through their participation, the media industry continues to play an important role in funding the Perron Institute’s world-leading research into personalised treatments for young people experiencing mental-health challenges.
Teams this year included Media Tonic, Southern Cross Austereo, ARN, QMS Media, Seven West Media, Kitchen Craftsmen and Clout Marketing. Prizes were generously donated by JCDecaux, oOh! Media, Nova, Automasters, The Last Drop Elizabethan and 300 Acres.

The Perron Institute’s Youth Mental Health research team is pioneering new, personalised approaches to treatment, exploring how genetic and biological factors affect and potentially predict treatment response in young people. Their work includes pharmacogenetic testing, which aims to understand how an individual’s unique genetic profile affects their response to medication, as well as non-invasive brain stimulation, which can improve the function of brain pathways involved in mood and emotion regulation.
Jim Murphy, head of Marketing and Fundraising at Perron Institute, said: “We’re proud of our partnerships with Longreach, the Wembley Golf Course, the Town of Cambridge and Telethon, and we are incredibly grateful for the support received and the generous community spirit over the past six years. This year, through all our Hole in One golf, Team Andy’s Swim, and associated events such as this, we raised over $121,000 for Telethon and youth mental health research at the Perron Institute.”

Angela Nutton, Longreach Media MD, said: “We’re proud to continue supporting the Perron Institute and to see Perth’s media industry rally behind such an important cause. Every team that joins us each year contributes directly to research that has the power to change lives. We sincerely thank everyone who played, donated, and helped make this year’s event another great success.”
Longreach Media looks forward to continuing its support of the Institute and building on the success of the Perron Institute Media Golf Day for years to come.
