The Bucks were defeated by the Cavaliers in last night’s NBA game, and after the match, Giannis Antetokounmpo spoke to the media.
The Cavaliers beat the Bucks in their third game of the NBA season with a score of 118–114, and Milwaukee’s star Giannis Antetokounmpo talked afterward about defense in the NBA.
“I’ve seen every defensive scheme there is. I’ve played games where two big men guarded me. I’ve faced smaller players and wings pressing me full court. I’ve played against teams that double-teamed me in the low post and built walls in front of me. Sometimes even a small guard defended me.”
He then compared the defense in Europe and the NBA:
“When I step on the court, I try to read the game and take every opportunity. If a teammate is open, I pass him the ball, and if he scores, I’m happy because it’s the right play. Sometimes I go one-on-one and score, sometimes I don’t. No matter the outcome, I’m happy because I trust my instincts. I’ve worked hard all my life and seen every kind of defense. In FIBA basketball, defenses are especially tougher than in the NBA. Of course, I’m not talking about the playoffs — I mean the regular season.”
Giannis also praised his team’s effort despite missing some key players:
“This says a lot. The Cavaliers had one of the best records last year. Let’s be realistic — they’re one of the best teams in the East. If you want to be a good team, if you want to raise the bar and do what it takes, you have to beat teams like that.”
The Bucks suffered their first loss of the season and now stand at 2–1, but once all the injured players return, they will surely aim to contend for the championship.
