In just a few days, a fierce feeding frenzy will begin.

From Saturday, November 1, several of the game’s brightest stars and some of the NRL’s most exciting young talent will be free to negotiate with rival clubs. Among the red-hot signing targets will be versatile Storm ace Tyran Wishart, while the future of Broncos prodigy Coby Black has become fascinating after Brisbane’s bombshell move for Jonah Pezet from 2027 onwards.

When this year’s transfer green light flashes for players off-contract at the end of 2026, teams will now have to compete for signatures with an expansion club — Perth Bears — that has an entire $12 million salary cap at its disposal ahead of a 2027 entry to the NRL.

BRONCOS

Players off contract end of 2026: Adam Reynolds, Ben Hunt, Billy Walters, Coby Black, Cory Paix, Jesse Arthars, Josh Rogers, Payne Haas, Tom Duffy, Hayze Perham

Analysis: The deal isn’t official but the Broncos have reportedly landed top halfback prospect Jonah Pezet from 2027. That puts a big cloud over the Broncos futures of both Coby Black and former Cowboy Tom Duffy. Before the Pezet news broke, Black and Duffy were expected to compete for the chance to replace skipper Adam Reynolds, with the veteran halfback expected to retire at the end of next season. However, the club will be hoping Pezet and Ezra Mam are the Broncos’ halves pairing for the next decade, so if Black and Duffy want clear first grade opportunities, they might want to head elsewhere. Both are decent depth pieces so the club will be aiming to keep at least one of them; most likely Black as they’ve spent longer developing him and previously branded him their future, yet he could fast become an opportunistic signing for a rival club. Payne Haas became the highest-paid prop in the game when he re-signed with the Broncos in 2023 and he may well reset the market again whenever he puts pen to paper on another deal, whether that is with the Broncos or one of the 17 other teams. At this stage, the Broncos are the firm favourites to keep Haas, with the club having reportedly tabled a three-year, $3.5 million deal. Haas’ agent Ahmad Merhi has already stated on the record that his client is going to stay put in Brisbane, despite the potential allure of a big money offer from the Perth Bears to make him the face of the franchise. Winger Jesse Arthars, meanwhile, has fallen down the pecking order at the Broncos and was only 18th man for the grand final. There would be several other teams he’d start for, so it’s likely he will meet with rival clubs from November 1. Billy Walters was arguably having his best season as a Bronco before injury struck. The 31-year-old isn’t getting any younger, but he’s proven to be a key and versatile piece for Michael Maguire. Given his age, a deal for him might not be announced until next season. Cory Paix had a strong season, starting at hooker in 18 games, including the finals series and grand final. He’s the favourite to begin next year backing up Ben Hunt at dummy-half, however, in a sure sign that the club considers Blake Mozer as the No. 9 of the future, the Broncos have recently backflipped on a decision to loan out Mozer to another club.

Potential targets: Pezet will be their flashy addition for 2027 and it appears that deal has already been agreed upon. He’ll join the Broncos after a one-year pit stop in Parramatta. With the Broncos’ salary cap squeeze and a host of players earning contract upgrades, it’s unlikely they will be in the market for any other big-name recruits, with Grant Anderson set to land at the Red Hill club for backline depth as Selwyn Cobbo departs.

BULLDOGS

Players off contract end of 2026: Connor Tracey, Enari Tuala, Jack Todd, Kade Dykes, Viliame Kikau, Josh Curran, Marcelo Montoya, Sam Hughes, Zyon Maiu’u

Analysis: An interesting team to monitor is the Bulldogs given the rumours around Matt Burton. The versatile Burton is under contract until the end of 2027, so he doesn’t become a free agent on November 1. However, there is talk he could be on the move early given Bulldogs supremo Phil Gould has stated on the record that the club is keen to test the young halves duo of Lachlan Galvin and Mitch Woods early next season. It’s natural to wonder where that would leave Burton. He could move into the centres but then where do you play Bronson Xerri and Stephen Crichton? Fullback is an option for Crichton, and perhaps Burton, which would then make Connor Tracey expendable. Tracey does become a free agent in a few days’ time and has been sensational at fullback for Canterbury, recording phenomenal numbers in 2025. Tracey started at the club as a winger early in the 2024 season, but has made the fullback spot his own and would attract significant interest if the Dogs allowed him to walk. Gun edge forward Viliame Kikau is also off contract at the end of 2026 and will be the highest priority as far as retention is concerned for the Bulldogs. Kurt Mann, who made his State of Origin debut for Queensland this season, is another player off contract at the end of 2026. Mann re-signed with the Bulldogs earlier this year, but that was only on a one-year deal. Marcelo Montoya and Enari Tuala will also be key priorities to consolidate their outside back depth.

Potential targets: Despite the departure of Blake Wilson, it is unlikely the Canterbury club will look to add depth to their outside backs. That is due to the arrival of Queensland under 19s Origin star David Bryenton, who won the Mal Meninga Cup Player of the Year award in 2025. Luckless fullback Kade Dykes is also landing in Belmore on a one-year ‘prove it’ deal, while Jonathan Sua is capable of playing first grade if called upon. Sean O’Sullivan has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal to add halves depth. Meanwhile, a significant portion of any remaining salary cap space will be taken up by Leo Thompson, prised from Newcastle and the type of marquee forward the Dogs have been looking for.

COWBOYS

Players off contract end of 2026: Braidon Burns, Griffin Neame, Harrison Edwards, Jake Clifford, Jaxon Purdue, Jaxson Paulo, John Bateman, Kai O’Donnell, Kaiden Lahrs, Karl Lawton, Murray Taulagi, Sam McIntyre, Tom Chester

Analysis: Cowboys fans will likely be up in arms if their club doesn’t come to an agreement with Jaxon Purdue, who is a rising superstar. The 20-year-old was superb in his first full season in the NRL and looks set for a bright future. It has been confirmed that he’ll hit the open market, which has to worry North Queensland supporters, but manager Sam Ayoub has indicated that his client wants to remain at the Cowboys. He also revealed that Purdue is happy to play in any position, and not necessarily angling for a move to the halves despite reports earlier in the season to the contrary. Even though the Cows are red-hot favourites to retain the Mackay product, there will be several teams wanting to throw their hat in the ring. Murray Taulagi is one of the games’ premier wingers and should be a priority for the Cowboys, as should Sam McIntyre. Tough as nails and a versatile forward, McIntyre is currently sidelined with injury, but he impressed this season in a range of positions and is a real barometer for this side. Tom Chester is talented but has been luckless with injuries. Griffin Neame’s best is very good but he was inconsistent this year. The Cowboys will need a big year from Neame with Jordan McLean now retired and injury concerns over Jason Taumalolo and Coen Hess. Veterans John Bateman, Karl Lawton and Jake Clifford will need massive seasons next year to earn an extension with the club.

Potential targets: The Cowboys already have their replacement for Reece Robson, luring Reed Mahoney north. North Queensland were also keen on Selwyn Cobbo earlier this year, indicating they are seeking recruits in the outside backs. Sharks gun Mawene Hiroti is without a contract for 2026 but is reportedly in the process of negotiating a new deal to remain in the Shire. Tommy Talau is also without a deal next year after being let go by Manly but signs are pointing towards Talau joining a Super League club. Despite an Achilles injury that could hamper him in 2026, Haze Dunster could be a solid cut-price recruit after being released by the Eels.

DOLPHINS

Players off contract end of 2026: Brad Schneider, Connelly Lemuelu, Francis Molo, Herbie Farnworth, Jake Averillo, Jamayne Isaako, James Walsh, Kodi Nikorima, Max Feagai, Oryn Keeley, Ray Stone, Trai Fuller, Selwyn Cobbo

Analysis: The Dolphins aren’t prepared to allow Herbie Farnworth to hit the open market on November 1, with CODE Sports reporting last month that they want to lock the 25-year-old in on a long-term deal worth around $1 million per season. Selwyn Cobbo will join the Dolphins in 2026 on a one-year deal, but there are already calls for him to return to the Broncos in 2027, while a big-money move to a new franchise could also be on the cards considering their open-slather salary caps. “With the salary cap, that’s footy. You won’t always get the team you always want to get. I will do one year at the Dolphins and who knows what happens, I could be back here in a couple of years,” Cobbo said of his Brisbane exit, making him a watch-and-see. Meanwhile, there were reports Kodi Nikorima could be part of a swap deal for Warrington halfback George Williams, but that was denied by Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf. While Nikorima might not be heading to Warrington in a swap, Williams is reportedly signing with the Dolphins for 2027. The England star had this to say about the reports: “That’s not signed and sealed yet. My full focus is on the Ashes and I’ll look at that afterwards.” The Dolphins will be keen to re-sign winger and goal kicker Jamayne Isaako, as well as the versatile Jake Averillo, who can cover anywhere in the backline.

Potential targets: The Dolphins have Morgan Knowles (St Helens), Selwyn Cobbo (Broncos) and Brad Schneider (Panthers) arriving ahead of 2026, but are still reportedly on the lookout for a playmaker to replace Kodi Nikorima. As aforementioned, Williams looks the likely man to land at the NRL newcomers, with CODE reporting he has signed a two-year deal beginning in 2027. Considering their recruits, and that potential deal alongside the players they have to upgrade with fresh contracts, it’s unlikely the Dolphins will go hard elsewhere in the market and they do welcome back a wave of big-name forwards after a horror injury toll in 2025; hopefully headlined by Tom Flegler after a career-threatening shoulder problem.

DRAGONS

Players off contract end of 2026: Blake Lawrie, Christian Tuipulotu, Damien Cook, Emre Guler, Hame Sele, Hamish Stewart, Jaydn Su’A, Lachlan Ilias, Luciano Leilua, Mathew Feagai, Tyrell Sloan

Analysis: Lachlan Ilias didn’t have the opportunities he would have hoped for in first grade in 2025. He starred in NSW Cup though, leading the Red V to a grand final. The halfback is chasing regular playing time in the NRL and should be afforded that opportunity next season as it has been reported he’ll join the Titans on a two-year deal. Tyrell Sloan was granted permission to negotiate with other clubs. The Panthers have reportedly shown interest in Sloan and he has also been linked with Catalans in the Super League. Veteran Damien Cook will be nearly 36 when his Dragons contract comes to an end after the 2026 season and is likely to retire. Jaydn Su’A is a priority re-signing for the Dragons, given their lack of elite forwards and Hamish Stewart is a long-term prospect for the club in the back row. Luciano Leilua, Blake Lawrie and Christian Tuipulotu need big seasons in 2026 to convince Shane Flanagan that they should be part of his future plans.

Potential targets: The Dragons desperately need a halfback and an elite front-rower to turn the club into a top eight contender, and Flanagan is on the lookout for both. The Red V have previously been linked with Titans gun Jayden Campbell, but Gold Coast bosses have tabled him a mammoth extension to remain at the club. Josh Kerr also returns to the Dragons and their biggest target is undoubtedly Titans star Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, who has confirmed he will hit the open market on November 1. The Bulldogs and Perth Bears are also reportedly interested in his services, but The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield revealed the Red V are ready to make a big play to sign him. “I’m told St George have gone in with an absolutely massive offer. It’s going to be the richest offer in St George Illawarra history for a player,” he said on Triple M.

EELS

Players off contract end of 2026: Charlie Guymer, Dean Hawkins, Dylan Walker, Joash Papalii, Josh Addo-Carr, Junior Paulo, Matt Doorey, Ronald Volkman, Ryan Matterson, Toni Mataele

Analysis: Promising half Jonah Pezet will reportedly link up with the Eels for 2026 en route to the Broncos. A domino to fall in the wake of that move was the departure of Dean Hawkins, who requested an early release to join the Super League. It’s unclear what Pezet’s arrival means for young gun Joash Papalii. The Eels should want to re-sign Papalii as he flashed plenty of ability across 13 first grade appearances this year and Pezet will only be in the building for one season. Barring injury, Papalii likely spends 2026 in reserve grade. If he’s willing to swallow his medicine for one season and sit behind Pezet, great. Or, he may be unhappy that he’s been knocked down the pecking order and want to test his value elsewhere. A full season in reserve grade may do him the world of good before he aims to slot into five-eighth next to Mitch Moses in 2027. Star winger Zac Lomax could potentially leave the club to join rebel rugby competition R360, despite having three years to run on his deal; although threats of massive bans from the NRL may kill that option. Jason Ryles said he would entertain the idea of releasing Lomax, which would free up money to rebuild his team back into a premiership force. Brendan Hands and Ryan Matterson were loaned out for the 2025 season, joining Toulouse Olympique and Warrington Wolves respectively with Hands to stay put at Toulouse for 2026, meaning the Eels have officially released him. Matterson was reportedly shopped to the Titans but they rebuffed, so it’s looking more and more likely he is still an Eel next season. Josh Addo-Carr is arguably the biggest name who will come off contract, but he has been solid since arriving this year and the club will do what they can to retain his services, with ‘The Foxx’ just given a Test recall for Australia’s Ashes campaign. Dylan Walker has been impressive in the middle of the park since joining from the Warriors. The former rep star is another priority re-signing for the Eels, while Charlie Guymer, Matt Doorey and Kelma Tuilagi are strong chances of being retained in the forwards after becoming regulars under Ryles. Junior Paulo’s had a revitalised season under Ryles and was one of the best players on the field in Samoa’s recent win over Tonga. The Eels could look to retain his leadership, being one of the club’s most experienced players, but it remains to be seen if he will be handed a fresh deal despite being a long-term first grade regular. Gun centre Will Penisini was in May announced as having extended until the end of next season, but later revealed that he had committed until the end of 2028.

Potential targets: The Eels will be on the lookout for some more elite forwards in the front row and back row to return them to title contention. With Lomax potentially on the move, his cap space could be utilised for some handy inclusions. In the forwards, Jack de Belin is already arriving, but the likes of Adam Elliott or Tui Kamikamica could be options available for 2026.

KNIGHTS

Players off contract end of 2026: Brodie Jones, Dane Gagai, Greg Marzhew, Thomas Cant, Tyson Gamble, Tyson Frizell

Analysis: Awooden spoon season saw coach Adam O’Brien fall on his sword, which gives the Knights a chance to start afresh under Justin Holbrook. The former Titans coach has a massive challenge to balance their roster and turn around their form, and it could see the club move on from several players on this list in something of a rebuild. Dane Gagai, who just signed on for 2026, and Tyson Frizell will both be 35 by the end of next season. There’s every chance both will hang up the boots at that stage, so don’t expect new deals to be struck with the Knights this year. Winger Greg Marzhew regressed this year. He’s a metre-eater coming out of his own half but has become less of a try-scoring threat; in 18 games this season, he only crossed for six tries. Nonetheless, he will garner some interest from other clubs. The Knights meanwhile, might want to see more from him next season before considering an extension offer. Tyson Gamble has been in and out of first grade and has so far shown that he isn’t the answer in the halves. With Dylan Brown coming to the club on a $13 million deal, Gamble may be shopped around until a taker is found. Jack Cogger mixed his form for the Knights and was granted an early release to rejoin Penrith. Thomas Cant’s form this season has been solid at best. After playing in just four games in 2023-2024, he appeared in 15 games. He won’t have a line-up of suitors but has some upside. Middle forward Brodie Jones has been a decent performer and the Knights may be interested in re-upping him for a year or two with an extension.

Potential targets: It’s not official but Sandon Smith has reportedly agreed on a four-year deal with Newcastle. He provides a bit of versatility and can be played in the halves and at hooker. Given the length of deal, it seems the Knights are banking on Smith providing a bankable playmaking option alongside Brown and young gun Fletcher Sharpe, who may be back in the mix to play fullback if Kalyn Ponga decides to leave; he’s contracted until the end of 2027. Newcastle will already welcome a host of new players into their squad alongside Brown in Peter Hola (Dolphins), Pasami Saulo (Raiders), Matthew Hunter, Asu Kepaoa (Panthers), Harrison Graham (Dolphins) and Trey Mooney (Raiders).

PANTHERS

Players off contract end of 2026: Jack Cole, Liam Henry, Lindsay Smith, Luke Garner, Matt Eisenhuth, Scott Sorensen

Analysis: A fairly quiet free agency for the Panthers, considering the players they’ve lost in recent years. Penrith’s powerbrokers will almost certainly focus on retaining key middle forwards Liam Henry and Lindsay Smith. With the departures of James Fisher-Harris and Ativalu Lisati last season, Ivan Cleary would prefer not to lose players who have become key figures in his forward pack. Reports have already emerged Smith is negotiating a new long-term contract, with a source informing the club wants to make him a Panther for life. The 25-year-old made his Kangaroos debut last year and was named in Laurie Daley’s NSW squad earlier this season. Henry, meanwhile, will test his value on the open market. The club’s preference is to keep the forward but no deal has been done, so the Panthers could be at risk of losing the 24-year-old. Scott Sorensen is also a key figure under Ivan Cleary, but it remains to be seen if he will be offered a new deal given he will be 33. But the Panthers may opt to give him a one-year extension to finish his career at the Panthers at the right price. Luke Garner reportedly had been given permission to negotiate with rivals earlier this year for 2026, but Cleary poured cold water on that move, revealing he will see out his current deal. There have been several clubs reportedly interested in Garner’s services, including the Eels, Sea Eagles and Dragons. Jack Cole could be on the move after falling down the halves pecking order, with Blaize Talagi now the nailed on No.6. It also remains to be seen if Matt Eisenhuth and Trent Toelau will be offered contracts beyond their current deals.

Potential recruits: The Panthers are looking to bolster their forwards and have been linked with a pair of middles in recent months. According to Zero Tackle, rising Warriors gun Toby Crosby could be making the move across the Tasman, having only begun playing rugby league in 2023. Tom Ale, another 2025 Warrior, has also been linked to Penrith as an uncontracted player. Elsewhere, it looks unlikely the Panthers will strengthen heavily, with a host of players on long-term, rich deals. However, with Daine Laurie departing for the Raiders, another fullback option could be on the cards, with only Jaxen Edgar remaining at the club in the fullback ranks. Heath Mason and Taine Tuaupiki are potential depth options, who are without a contract in 2027 and wouldn’t cost the Panthers a hefty chunk of their salary cap.

RABBITOHS

Players off contract end of 2026: Ashton Ward, Cody Walker, Jamie Humphreys, Jye Gray, Keaon Koloamatangi, Sean Keppie, Moala Graham-Taufa

Analysis: The big news out of Redfern is that they are targeting David Fifita — and he’s reportedly getting a release from the final year of his Titans deal in 2026, which could impact South Sydney’s off-contract stars; though Gold Coast will reportedly cover $500,000 of his salary in both ‘26 and ‘27. Davvy Moale may now join Manly from next season, as a domino move from Fifita’s arrival. One of the other rare bright spots this season has been Jye Gray at fullback, but he has been linked with a move to the R360 competition. The diminutive fullback has proven time and time again he has to be in the Rabbitohs’ best 17. Wayne Bennett revealed that Latrell Mitchell is willing to commit to a permanent shift to the centres, which means Gray should be a priority signing for Souths. But if Gray moves on, Souths will be on the lookout for a No. 1 if Mitchell stays in the centres or converts to five-eighth. The Rabbitohs have both their starting halves in Cody Walker and Jamie Humphreys coming off-contract in 2026. Walker is expected to retire, while Humphreys needs a big season to convince Wayne Bennett he is worth keeping in long-term plans. He’ll be battling with rising star and new recruit Jonah Glover for the No. 7 jersey in the off-season. Ashton Ward recently signed a one-year extension for 2026 but will also be looking for a long-term deal with Walker’s career winding down. The glaringly obvious name that Rabbitohs fans will want their club to lock up before November 1 is Keaon Koloamatangi. The middle forward was outstanding this season and one of the few bright spots for Souths in a tough 2025 campaign, going close to earning a Blues recall and recently being picked for the Kangaroos Ashes squad. Koloamatangi signed a two-year extension with the club in 2023 in the October before the deadline. The fact he only inked two years could be an indication he wanted to see where the club was at, at this time. If that’s the case, Koloamatangi may look to get out of a struggling Rabbitohs team in search of greener pastures. Sean Keppie struggled last season and is unlikely to earn a new deal, unless he improves in 2026 and the price is right.

Potential targets: Souths have watched Adam Reynolds make two grand finals and win a premiership since they forced him out of the club and until they find a No. 7 they will live to regret the worst blunder in their history. Adding to that calamitous decision, Walker is nearing retirement and Mitchell might not be far behind him, after saying he might not play past his 30th birthday in the past. Humphreys is potentially the answer, but he might be a better option at hooker, while Gray is being chased by R360, so Souths could be without halves and a fullback in a year’s time. Mitchell could switch to five-eighth for the back end of his career, which means they still need a No. 7 and No. 1 to contend for a title. The club may go hard for Jayden Campbell and make him their fullback if Gray leaves, and Tyran Wishart could be an option at halfback after Jonah Pezet confirmed he will go to the Broncos via a one-year deal with the Eels.

RAIDERS

Players off contract end of 2026: Ata Mariota, Chevy Stewart, Josh Papalii, Michael Asomua, Morgan Smithies, Savelio Tamale, Noah Martin

Analysis: The Raiders should prioritise re-signing Ata Mariota and locking him down long-term. Josh Papalii has put pen-to-paper on a one-year extension, but when the veteran retires or leaves the club at the end of next season, Mariota can slot in and become the team’s starting front-rower alongside Joe Tapine. Mariota had an outstanding season in 2025, providing plenty of punch off the bench for the table-topping Raiders. The versatile Simi Sasagi recently inked a two-year contract extension to stay with the Green Machine. Adam Cook has joined the Leigh Leopards in the Super League, with the Raiders on the lookout to improve their halfback depth, after Jamal Fogarty joined Manly and a young, inexperienced Ethan Sanders set to take over. It appears as if Chevy Stewart will be heading out the door, given the emergence of Kaeo Weekes at fullback. The Dragons and Sharks have been linked to Stewart and they could try and land him as soon as next season. Boom winger Savelio Tamale enjoyed a super impressive rookie campaign, near the top of the league in tackle busts before a late-season injury. There will be several teams, who will be monitoring him, but ultimately, expect the Raiders to lock down the powerful outside back. He’s too good a player to let walk, especially when he was a crucial part of their minor premiership-winning season. Morgan Smithies and Noah Martin will be priority re-signings, especially with Papalii likely finishing up at the end of 2026.

Potential targets: The Raiders have already landed the services of winger Sione Finau from the Dragons and following him, according to CODE Sports, will be Panthers gun Daine Laurie. His arrival could signal an exit for Stewart, who has been linked with a move away from the club. Elsewhere, with Sanders now set to be the club’s first-choice No. 7, it’s clear the team from the nation’s capital are lacking in depth in the halves department. The club have reportedly been linked to Knights reject Jackson Hastings to help mentor Sanders as he develops into a full-time NRL halfback. Cowboys halfback Jake Clifford has previously been linked with a move to Canberra and he comes off-contract come November 1, while Ronald Volkman could be another cheap depth addition. In terms of a more premium option, Rabbitoh Jamie Humphreys is also without a deal for 2027 and his utility value likely means he could garner some interest should he hit the open market.

ROOSTERS

Players off contract end of 2026: Angus Crichton, Blake Steep, Daniel Tupou, James Tedesco, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Sandon Smith, Siua Wong

Analysis: Several huge Roosters’ names come off contract at the end of next season, with James Tedesco a priority re-signing for the club after a stunning Dally M-winning season in 2025. The 32-year-old has more than earned himself an extension for 2027 and potentially even 2028. The Roosters won’t let him sign anywhere else and Tedesco is unlikely to want to go elsewhere. Angus Crichton is another player the Roosters will be fighting hard to retain. The edge forward has reportedly told his agent that he only wants to play for the Roosters in the NRL, but has also signalled a desire to switch to rugby union. The chance to follow good friend and former Roosters teammate Joseph Suaalii to union and potentially represent Australia in the 2027 Rugby World Cup could prove alluring. Former Wallaby Mark Nawaqanitawase has already confirmed he will return to rugby union for a shot at the home World Cup, which means the Roosters will be on the lookout for a new winger. With Nawaqanitawase moving on, Daniel Tupou could even extend his career beyond 2026 if his body holds up. Siua Wong has become a consistent contributor in the back row and will be a priority for Trent Robinson. Tasked with a larger role because of the departure of several stars in the off-season, Blake Steep has become a fixture in the Roosters’ line up and will be a priority re-signing, especially if Crichton moves on, but the young gun is sure to garner plenty of interest from rivals. Sandon Smith is reportedly set to link up with the Knights on a four-year deal from next season.

Potential targets: The Roosters will be on the lookout for some quality finishers. One potential option would be to throw some money at Dolphins winger Selwyn Cobbo, who can not only thrive as a finisher in their system, but he could eventually replace Tedesco at fullback in coming years. Another option would be Cowboys flyer Murray Taulagi, who could follow former teammate Reece Robson to Sydney. Daly Cherry-Evans is reportedly on a one-year deal at the Roosters in 2026, while Crichton is reportedly eyeing a code switch, so that will free up some money in 2027 to chase some big-name players. The Roosters could land a big blow on arch rivals Souths if they convince Keaon Koloamatangi to jump ship to the Tricolours.

SEA EAGLES

Players off contract end of 2026: Aaron Schoupp, Jake Simpkin, Jake Trbojevic, Lachlan Croker, Nathan Brown, Paul Bryan, Reuben Garrick, Tolutau Koula

Analysis: All eyes will be on Jake Trbojevic as November 1 approaches. Tom Trbojevic is now confirmed for a one-year extension, keeping him at the club until the end of 2027 after a clumsy misunderstanding over a reduced salary. Jake, meanwhile, is facing a hefty pay cut of around $400,000 to stay a one-club player. Currently on $1 million per season, the former Blues skipper suffered three bad concussions last season, putting his long-term future in some doubt. The older Trbojevic may opt to retire at the end of his current deal, particularly if concussion issues continue in 2026. Hookers Lachlan Croker and Jake Simpkin and outside backs Reuben Garrick and Tolutau Koula are other names to watch. Manly have lacked an elite hooker for some time, so they will be on the lookout for a star in that position. Croker is reportedly facing medical retirement over a shoulder injury and multiple concussions, so locking up Simpkin will be a priority. With Tom Trbojevic re-signed, Manly may have to let go of Garrick or Koula, given they have Lehi Hopoate on their books to fit into the backline and as the presumptive long-term fullback. Garrick is reportedly set to test his value on the open market after November 1, with Manly facing an uphill battle to retain his services. Daly Cherry-Evans, of course, is gone — though we’re still waiting on the official announcement that he’s joined the Roosters. Young rugby-raised prodigy Joey Walsh is far too green to be a win-now option in the halves and the club has been reluctant to make Luke Brooks their main man, so a huge load will fall on halfback recruit Jamal Fogarty.

Potential targets: With some questions over their fullback and halves stocks, Manly may keep an eye on Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow for the following year or Jahream Bula should his potential Wests Tigers exit gain momentum, while Matt Burton looms as a possible five-eighth option to partner with Fogarty until Walsh is ready to take over the No. 7 jersey. Manly have also struggled to replace Addin Fonua-Blake since he left the club and a big money play for Payne Haas or even a player like Lindsay Smith might be the answer because they need an enforcer to lead their pack, especially after Josh Aloiai’s medical retirement. With Croker facing medical retirement, Manly will be on the lookout for a new hooker, with Broncos pair Cory Paix and Billy Walters and Titans counterpart Sam Verrills potential options coming off-contract; the latter being a Sydney product.

SHARKS

Players off contract end of 2026: Billy Burns, Blake Hosking, Braden Hamlin-Uele, Cameron McInnes, Chris Veaíla, Hohepa Puru, Jayden Berrell, Jesse Colquhoun, Jesse Ramien, Niwhai Puru, Riley Jones, Sam Stonestreet, Sione Katoa, Siosifa Talakai, Toby Rudolf, William Kennedy

Analysis: Plenty of big decisions to be made by Sharks powerbrokers as there are 16 players including several stars that will be free to negotiate with rivals from November 1. Given they are a loyal club and were one game away from a grand final, expect the Sharks to retain most of the players listed above. Three players the club is considering letting leave are Siosifa Talakai, Braden Hamlin-Uele and Jesse Ramien. All three have one more year left on their deals but Hamlin-Uele has already been granted permission to speak with rivals and there are several clubs interested in Ramien. Cameron McInnes might have played his last game for the club. The 31-year-old suffered a serious knee injury and will spend a significant amount of time on the sideline. The Perth Bears reportedly have McInnes on their ‘hit list’, meaning he could be swayed away from Cronulla with an offer too good to refuse. Edge forward Billy Burns enjoyed a great season, even keeping Briton Nikora out of the starting line-up in the finals. With Blayke Brailey and KL Iro locked in, Sione Katoa should be their next priority in the outside backs, especially after Ronaldo Mulitalo’s long-term knee injury. Jesse Colquhoun was a very handy contributor for the Sharks in the back half of the season and provides invaluable depth in the middle forwards. He should be a priority, especially if McInnes moves on to the Bears. William Kennedy inked a one-year extension for 2026, but amid links to R360 he is playing for his NRL future in 2026.

Potential targets: The Sharks have fallen short time and again after back-to-back preliminary final exits and they have to face the fact that Nicho Hynes might not be the halfback to win them a premiership. That doesn’t mean they need to get rid of him, but he could switch to five-eighth to allow them to chase a halfback that can take them all the way. Storm utility Tyran Wishart could be an option or they could wait until the 2027 off-contract class that includes Matt Burton, Cameron Munster, Nathan Cleary and Sam Walker. Granted, Burton is the only player likely to leave their current club of those four, but the Sharks can’t keep doing the same thing each year and expect a different result.

STORM

Players off contract end of 2026: Harry Grant, Nick Meaney, Ryan Papenhuyzen, Shawn Blore, Tyran Wishart, William Warbrick

Analysis: Ryan Papenhuyzen has been linked with a move to rebel rugby union competition R360, which kicks off just before next year’s grand final on October 2. If he goes, Nick Meaney would be a priority re-signing to vie with Sualauvi Fa’alogo for the fullback jersey. Hooker Harry Grant is on the radar of the Perth Bears. The Bears are free to start signing players on November 1 for their first season in the competition in 2027 and reportedly view Grant as a marquee signing target. With the expansion club keen to make him an offer, Grant spoke about his future earlier this season. He said he was in no hurry to sit down with the Storm. “As a player and a club, we’ve all got really good relationships. Those conversations haven’t happened, but that’ll come when the time’s right and just got to be delicate (about) when that is as well,” Grant said. Tyran Wishart has been linked to a return to his junior club the Dragons, who are on the lookout for an elite halfback, but after Jonah Pezet’s switch to the Broncos via a one-year deal with the Eels, Wishart is now a priority re-signing for the Storm. However, like Pezet, Wishart needs to leave the Storm to become a full-time starter and the 25-year-old has declared that he will explore his options from November 1. Given that he has elite versatility and also the potential to be a genuine high-end spine player, he looms as one of the most sought-after players on offer and the race to sign him could get red-hot. Kiwi stars Shawn Blore and William Warbrick will be priority re-signings and the Storm could use Papenhuyzen’s money to lock up Grant long-term. The release of Nelson Asofa-Solomona has also freed up considerable cap space to lock up the players coming off contract.

Potential targets: After losing back-to-back grand finals the Storm need to work out what their missing piece is and it could be a prop after Asofa-Solomona was suspended for the last two deciders before leaving the club. After his release, the Storm may go hard for a reunion with Tino Fa’asuamaleaui. The Storm tried to get their old prop back last year, before he inked a mega deal with the Titans. The Perth Bears are also keen, but if Tino wants to win he could go back to Melbourne. The Storm also have issues defensively on the edge and if Papenhuyzen moves to R360, then Meaney can vie with Fa’alogo for the fullback spot and they can chase a strike centre. Manly’s battle to retain both Reuben Garrick and Tolutau Koula may pique their interest.

TITANS

Players off contract end of 2026: Arama Hau, Beau Fermor, Brian Kelly, David Fifita, Jaimin Jolliffe, Jayden Campbell, Phillip Sami, Sam Verrills, Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, Tuki Simpkins

Analysis: New coach Josh Hannay has flagged a player clean-out as he tries to mould the roster into his vision for the future. Lachlan Ilias is in talks to join the club as their new halfback, after Kieran Foran’s retirement. There may be high turnover at the struggling Titans next season, with several stars set to go off contract. Jayden Campbell is tipped to receive a big-money offer from the Perth Bears, with the talented playmaker on the expansion’s club reported ‘hit list’. Campbell has taken great strides this season, but the Titans may not have the deep pockets to match any Bears offer, given they have a lot of their salary cap tied to Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, Mo Fotuaika, Keano Kini and AJ Brimson. Campbell has been solid as a half this year, but there’s a view around the league that his best position is at fullback. With Kini and Brimson on the books long-term, the Titans may let Campbell head elsewhere, especially if Ilias joins the club to play halfback. David Fifita is seemingly on the outer at the Titans and headed to the Rabbitohs, though Gold Coast will reportedly stump up $500,000 of his salary for the next two years. Beau Fermor is a big priority for the Titans. He fills a need on the edge where he can look like a world-beater at times. His form this season saw him rewarded with a maiden Queensland jersey. Two players who appear on the way out are outside backs Brian Kelly and Phil Sami, with the latter linked to the Dragons in a player swap with Ilias. However, Sami is now set to see out the final year of his deal. Reagan Campbell-Gillard has also departed the club, which could open up cap space to make some signings. Hooker Sam Verrills is a player the Titans may need to fight to keep, with class No.9s at a premium.

Potential targets: The Titans need a lot of things but primarily a halfback, which is why they have reportedly been linked to Dragons No. 7 Ilias and Knights counterpart Jackson Hastings, but it remains to be seen if they are the circuit breakers than can turn them around. Storm star Tyran Wishart is a player perhaps worth investing in as he has the potential to be a long-term No.7, though the Titans are one of many clubs who would love to have a player of his upside and versatility.

TIGERS

Players off contract end of 2026: Heath Mason, Jack Bird, Jahream Bula, Jarome Luai, Jeral Skelton, Luke Laulilii, Sione Fainu, Solomone Saukuru, Tony Sukkar, Tristan Hope, Mavrik Geyer

Analysis:Jarome Luai is the priority retention for the Tigers. Luai is yet to activate his player option beyond 2026, so the Tigers will be hoping he doesn’t instead exercise his get-out clause. Luai said recently that the Tigers have nothing to worry about as long as they look after him and his family, in a promising sign he is in for the long haul, but they will want to make a finals push next season to ensure he is happy on the field on top of a $1.2 million annual salary. Jahream Bula had been linked to a move to the Bulldogs amid concerns around the club failing to exercise an option to keep him at the club in 2026; the Tigers are reportedly baulking at paying him a hefty $900,000 salary, uncertain that he’s that calibre of player. It may be that he doesn’t have a long-term future at the club. Jeral Skelton showed plenty of promise in 2025 and will likely earn an extension with a strong start to 2026. Much has been made about the form of his brothers Samuela and Latu, but Sione Fainu has enjoyed just as good a season in 2025 and deserves an extension. The older Fainu has been excellent in the middle during the Tigers’ late season purple patch, proving a handful for opposition back lines when he’s had ball in hand, though the highlight has been his hard-hitting defence. Jack Bird is set to be one casualty in the off-season, with the Tigers giving him permission to leave the club early, but interest in his services has been quiet to date. Heath Mason, Solomone Saukuru, Tony Sukkar, Tristan Hope, Mavrik Geyer and Luke Laulilii all need big seasons in 2026 to convince Benji Marshall that they should be in his long-term plans.

Potential targets: The Tigers are in need of some more quality forwards and strike centres. Players they could look to target that don’t have deals for 2026 are Knights lock Adam Elliott, Broncos back-rower Jack Gosiewski and Eels prop Wiremu Greig. But if they play the long game, they could target Raiders star Morgan Smithies, Sharks lock Jesse Colquhoun and Souths enforcer Keaon Koloamatangi for 2027. In terms of centres, the Tigers could make a play for Sharks star Jesse Ramien to give them some much-needed power on the edge, with reports he could be forced out of Cronulla amid interest from several rival clubs. If the Bula situation spirals into him leaving, dependable Bulldogs fullback Connor Tracey is an interesting option for the Tigers at No.1, and certainly cheaper.

WARRIORS

Players off contract end of 2026: Chanel Harris-Tavita, Freddy Lussick, Kurt Capewell, Marata Niukore, Rocco Berry, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Taine Tuaupiki, Tanah Boyd, Te Maire Martin

Analysis: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is reportedly close to signing with the Saudi-backed Rugby 360 competition on a deal nearing $1 million a season. Given Tuivasa-Sheck will be on about $550,000 next season with the Warriors, the 2018 Dally M Medallist would nearly double his salary if he jumped ship. Tuivasa-Sheck’s defection will likely mean Taine Tuaupiki and Rocco Berry are re-signed to bolster their outside back depth. Warriors halfback Luke Metcalf was being linked to the Bears and a return to Sydney with several clubs interested in his services, but the playmaker decided to ink a two-year extension that will keep him at the Warriors until at least the end of 2028. Playmakers Chanel Harris-Tavita and Te Maire Martin also come off-contract, so the Warriors need to work out who their long-term halves pair is and the odd man out could be moved on. Queensland State of Origin forward Kurt Capewell is also likely to attract interest once he hits the open market, despite coming to the back end of his career. But given he is close with Andrew Webster, he will likely finish his career at the Warriors, unless he wants to try his luck in the Super League. Marata Niukore is also a priority re-signing for the Warriors, but with nine players coming off contract they can’t keep them all.

Potential targets: With two halves Harris-Tavita and Martin coming off-contract, the Warriors need to decide who their long-term partner for Metcalf is or whether they need to look elsewhere. Re-signing the pair won’t come cheap, so they may need to let one go, or even both if they can snare a suitable replacement. Of the halves coming off-contract in 2026. Tyran Wishart is the pick of the players on offer. Of the players without deals for 2026, Jackson Hastings could be another option.
