Olimpia Milano forward Vlatko Cancar won’t join the Slovenian national team for the 2025 EuroBasket.
Per the Slovenian Federation, Cancar informed national team coach Aleksander Sekulic that he will skip the upcoming European Championship to focus on getting prepared for the upcoming season according to a work program that Milano has prepared for him.
Cancar underwent arthroscopic surgery in his left knee in January. In 2023, and during the World Cup training camp, the 28-year-old player had suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the same knee.
Since 2016, Cancar has been a steady member of the Slovenian national team, winning the gold medal in the 2007 EuroBasket.
Earlier in the offseason, Cancar signed with Milano and is bound to make his first appearance in the EuroLeague with the Italian side after spending the previous five years in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets.
Slovenia will participate in Group D of the EuroBasket, facing France, Israel, Belgium, Iceland and host Poland. The top four teams from each of the four Groups will advance to the knockout stage that will be held in Riga, Latvia.
