Teams interested in acquiring Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers may need to give up at least a Day 2 draft pick to do so.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Wednesday that his “sense is the Raiders want a strong pick for Meyers.”
“A swap of Day 3 picks won’t do at this stage,” Fowler wrote.
Fowler named the Pittsburgh Steelers as the team most likely to trade for Meyers, who requested a trade in August and reiterated in October he still wanted to be moved.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last Saturday, however, that the Raiders will trade Meyers ahead of the Nov. 4 deadline “only if they felt they were getting strong value in return.”
NFL insider Jordan Schultz also reported Monday that there is a “belief” the Raiders were looking for at least a Day 2 pick in exchange for Meyers.
The Steelers are a match for Meyers because other teams are “looking for more of a vertical threat than a possession receiver,” Fowler noted.
Schefter has previously reported that the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos are other candidates to pursue a wide receiver ahead of the trade deadline.
Meyers missed Week 7 with knee and toe injuries, but when available has recorded 29 catches for 329 receiving yards in six games this season.
He and Geno Smith still haven’t been able to revive the Raiders’ passing offense, which currently ranks 27th in the league with 182.7 passing yards per game.
Meyers has said he wants to “play good football” for the Raiders if he stays in Las Vegas for the rest of the season, but his unwavering stance on his trade request indicates he might not re-sign with the franchise after his three-year, $33 million deal expires next spring.
Schefter previously reported this still might not push the Raiders to move him, and that the franchise is “wiling to carry him on their roster until his contract expires after this season.”
The Raiders are in danger of missing the playoffs for a fourth straight season as the team heads into Week 9 with a 2-5 record.
Fowler reported that the fact that the 2025 season marks head coach Pete Carroll’s first campaign in Las Vegas could push the Raiders to “wait until after the season to make any sweeping changes.”
The Raiders have just their Week 9 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday remaining before the franchise will need to decide whether to push to move Meyers at the deadline or play him on his expiring contract as Carroll looks to solve the issues with the Las Vegas offense down the stretch. The 2025 trade window closes next Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.
