Rookie Trey Yesavage struck out 12 batters to set a World Series record and the Toronto Blue Jays opened Game 5 with back-to-back home runs in a 6–1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night, moving within one victory of their first championship in 32 years.

Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr homered on Blake Snell’s first and third pitches – the first consecutive homers ever to start a World Series game – as Toronto jumped to a quick 2–0 lead before a stunned Dodger Stadium crowd.

Yesavage, 22, overpowered the defending champions with a mix of splitters and sliders, becoming the first Series pitcher with 12 strikeouts and no walks. He gave up three hits in seven innings, the only run coming on Kiké Hernández’s solo homer in the third.
