We almost don’t want to ruin the surprise, but heads up: This is the cutest thing you’ll watch all day. The video aptly tells us to, “Wait for it!” and we weren’t disappointed.

As the caption explains, “The most incredible safari experience in the Serengeti when this TEENY elephant crossed right in front of us!! He could not have been more than a few weeks old. What a dream!”

You have to see this little guy to believe an elephant can even be that small (for context, adult males can weigh 13,000 pounds.)

The video text goes on to explain the encounter, “We were thrilled just to see this herd cross the road in front of us. But then we saw the smallest, most adorable elephant in the world emerge from the grass and couldn’t believe our eyes.”

Like us, commenters absolutely gushed over the niblet with @Lola V remarking, “So small his little trunk is almost dragging on the ground.” Another viewer put it well, “Widdle baby elephant omgggg.” One poster noticed an interesting aspect of the group, “I love how they keep the baby in the middle of everyone.” The original account responded, “Elephant herd dynamics are SOO smart and so interesting.” (In fact, baby elephants get a lot of benefits from moving with the herd right after birth, including protection from predators.)

Everything You Need to Know About Elephant Babies

Baby elephants have a special place in the animal kingdom — their moms have the longest pregnancies of any mammal. It takes almost 2 years for a baby to gestate, but that means they’re born able to move almost right away. Keep in mind, it also results in babies that weigh nearly 250 pounds. Additionally, they stay “kids” for a long time and live alongside mom into their teens (elephant herds are matriarchal, so mom is BOSS).

Lastly, and most importantly, little elephants have one thing they love most above all: mud baths! Watch a different elephant clip where mom showcases her strength and determination while her baby takes a bath.

Elephants are surely one of nature’s most amazing creatures!
