Another defensive star has earned a long-term extension with his respective franchise, as Detroit Lions pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson signed a four-year, $180 million extension with the team.

He’s one of several pass rushers to earn a bag in 2025, including Micah Parsons with the Green Bay Packers, T.J. Watt with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Myles Garrett with the Cleveland Browns.

Speaking of Garrett, a source told ESPN there’s “no chance” he’ll be traded before next Tuesday’s deadline. Garrett has been vocal — more than once — this season about his frustration with the losing in Cleveland, but he has a no-trade clause and reportedly hasn’t hinted he’d like a change of scenery.

Meanwhile, Lamar Jackson sounds like he will return to action on Thursday when the Baltimore Ravens take on the Miami Dolphins.

The Ravens quarterback has missed the past three games with a hamstring injury he suffered Sept. 28 during a Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. On Tuesday, he sounded more than ready ahead of his first full practice in weeks.

“Can’t wait to touch the grass with my guys, man,” he said Tuesday after he was a “full” participant in Ravens practice. “It’s been a while.”

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, also fracturing his fibula and rupturing his deltoid ligament, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The rookie out of Arizona State underwent emergency surgery Sunday night in Philadelphia to close the wound in his leg.

Skattebo sustained the injury after a second-quarter pass from quarterback Jaxson Dart. His right leg got pinned underneath him and twisted on the ensuing hit. His lower leg was awkwardly bent in the immediate aftermath of the play.

Skattebo, who has since been placed on season-ending injured reserve, has an estimated recovery time of 4-6 months, which means he could take part in OTAs and minicamp.

Bowers has not played since Week 5 due to a knee injury. He returned to practice on Oct. 17, but was limited. The Raiders were expecting he would be back following their bye week.

“He’s back,” said Raiders head coach Pete Carroll, via ESPN’s Ryan McFadden. “Last week, he looked good every day, particularly good on the Monday practice. And he kind of stole the show a little bit. So, we’re thrilled to have him back.”

The tight end dealt with a PCL injury and a bone bruise in his left knee that he suffered in the Raiders’ Week 1 win over the Patriots.

“It sucked, to be honest,” Bowers said. “But it’s in the past. I’m excited to get back out there.”

The San Francisco 49ers have been nursing injuries all season long, and it’s no different heading into Week 9.

NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco shares that six players were held out of the first practice of the week, including a number of starters. WR Ricky Pearsall continues to sit out with a knee injury that has held him out in each of the past four weeks. Several contributors on defense were also out on Wednesday, including DE Bryce Huff, DT Alfred Collins and LB Dee Winters.

QB Brock Purdy was among those who were limited in practice on Wednesday, working toward making a return from a nagging toe turf injury. Mac Jones has started six games in his place this season with a 4-2 record. Over the past three games, Jones has averaged 230.7 yards per game with two touchdowns and four interceptions and a 75.6 passer rating.

New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson missed Wednesday’s practice with a toe injury.

With his status in question for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, rookie TreVeyon Henderson could be thrust into the spotlight, a week after he rushed for a season-high 75 yards on 10 carries.

Henderson did, however, fumble once in the Week 8 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Seattle Seahawks safety Julian Love had a “setback” in his recovery from a hamstring injury and could miss Sunday’s prime-time game against the Washington Commanders.

Head coach Mike Macdonald announced the update to reporters on Wednesday.

A Pro Bowler in 2023, Love started all 17 of Seattle’s regular-season games in 2024. But he’s been limited to three games this season and hasn’t played since Week 4 with his hamstring injury.

The Seahawks will face a Commanders team that projects to get back Pro Bowl quarterback Jayden Daniels from a hamstring injury Sunday.

The Eagles are also sending the Jets a 2027 sixth-round draft pick, while New York will move a 2027 seventh-rounder to Philadelphia.

Metchie, 25, is in his third NFL season and third team this season. He was a second-round draft pick by the Texans in 2022 and played 29 games over his first two pro seasons. In August, he was dealt from Houston to the Eagles for tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round draft pick.

Carter, 26, was a fifth-round draft pick by the Jets in 2021. He is in his fifth NFL season and has recorded two career interceptions in 65 games played. He lost his job to Jarvis Brownlee and was expected to be cut after the season.

Carter’s deal runs through the 2027 season and he has $20.3 million remaining on his contract, but only $2.3 million of it is guaranteed.

It sounds like Jayden Daniels’ second injury absence of the season will be short-lived.

Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn told reporters Wednesday that Daniels is expected to practice in full all week ahead of Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. Daniels missed Monday’s 28-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs with a hamstring injury.

But he’ll be down his top target if he does return. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin re-injured his quad in Monday’s game and will not play, the Commanders announced.

Young missed Sunday’s loss to the Bills after suffering a high right-ankle sprain in Week 7 against the Jets. He did not practice at all last week.

Practicing as a full participant on a Wednesday is a good sign he’ll be ready to come back against the Packers this week.

The Vikings will have J.J. McCarthy under center on Sunday against the Lions, head coach Kevin O’Connell said Wednesday.

McCarthy sustained a high-ankle sprain in Week 2, his second game as an NFL starter, and has not played since. Carson Wentz has started the past five games with Minnesota going 2-3.

Wentz is now done for the season, however, after undergoing shoulder surgery on his non-throwing arm after injury it Thursday night against the Chargers.

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor told reporters that quarterback Joe Flacco and defensive end Trey Hendrickson won’t practice Wednesday.

Hendrickson is dealing with a hip injury that he aggravated during a Week 8 loss to the New York Jets.

Flacco, meanwhile, is trying to play through an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder. The 40-year-old signal-caller wants to do whatever it takes to suit up Sunday versus the Chicago Bears.

If Flacco can’t go, Jake Browning will be up again.

The Cleveland Browns are more likely to be sellers than buyers at the trade deadline, but defensive end Myles Garrett probably isn’t going anywhere.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that a source told him there’s “no chance” Cleveland would consider dealing Garrett by Tuesday’s deadline.

“People have a better chance of winning the lottery,” the source reportedly told Schefter.

After requesting a trade in early February, Garrett signed a four-year extension with the Browns in March that, at the time, made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

Garrett reset his own franchise single-game record with five sacks in a loss to the New England Patriots in Week 8.

The Denver Broncos have signed 41-year-old tight end Marcedes Lewis to the practice squad. Lewis played for the Chicago Bears over the past couple of seasons.

As part of the New England Patriots’, Pittsburgh Steelers trade that sent safety Kyle Dugger to the Steelers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Patriots will continue to pay most of the remaining $5.4 million left on his contract.

New England received a 2026 sixth-round draft pick in return for the veteran safety. The Patriots also sent a seventh-round pick with Dugger to Pittsburgh. Dugger was a second-round pick by the Patriots in 2020 and had been a primary starter for the team since 2021.
