Sam Konstas suffered the unfortunate reality of being the only man out during NSW’s second innings after the match against Queensland was drawn.

The Bulls declared on day four at 8-347 with no chance of a result, giving Test selectors another look at the much antagonised incumbent opener.

Konstas put forward a measured 41 before he danced down the wicket to debutant Sam Skelly and tried to go over the top of mid-off.

The 20-year-old didn’t time it well though, with Hayden Kerr taking a smart catch behind his body. The wicket was Skelly’s first in Shield cricket.

NSW finished 1-79 with Will Salzmann not out on 31 and first innings centurion Kurtis Patterson unbeaten on 2.

In Queensland’s innings, Jack Clayton hit 113 while Kerr was 57 not out before Marnus Labuschagne made the call to declare.

Patterson was awarded player of the match for his century.

In the other matches, Western Australia were set a total of 303 to win after South Australia declared at 8-394 following Nathan McSweeney’s hundred on day three.

Tasmania needed 355 runs to win against Victoria and in the chase, Beau Webster could only muster six runs off 21 balls before his side was bowled out for 210.

Fergus O’Neill claimed 4-54.

Australia’s initial Ashes squad will be named after this Sheffield Shield round despite one more round to be played before the first Test.
