The Kansas Jayhawks were ranked as the No. 1 team in the country heading into the 2024–2025 season, but they failed to meet those expectations. Kansas lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament, finishing the year with 13 losses (the highest mark in 22 seasons under head coach Bill Self). This year, the Jayhawks are looking to flip the script and outperform their preseason rank of No. 19.

After a strong class of both transfers and recruits, Coach Self has an exciting roster to work with. It all starts with five-star freshman and future NBA lottery pick Darryn Peterson. One of the more well-rounded guard prospects in recent years, Peterson is smart, versatile, and incredibly skilled. At 6’5″, he can dribble, pass, shoot, and defend multiple positions.

Manning the center position is returning sophomore Flory Bidunga. Kansas is expecting a considerable leap in production from the big man, who averaged 5.9 points per game as freshman. Bidunga is an elite athlete who moves exceptionally well for someone of his size (6’10”, 235 lb). He’s an imposing defensive presence for KU’s frontcourt, with an offensive game that’s still developing.

Transfers Tre White, Jayden Dawson, and Melvin Council Jr. are three more key additions for the Jayhawks. Guard Elmarko Jackson should also see a lot of minutes in his first season back after a knee injury last June.

Kansas appears to have a more athletic, versatile, and experienced team this time around, and they’re hoping for an emphatic return to form. It’s only been three years since their last NCAA championship, and there’s no doubt they have a coach capable of getting them there.

You can stream every game on the Kansas basketball schedule live with DIRECTV STREAM, Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, and more. Exact team schedules are decided by networks during the season and are subject to change. Blackout restrictions may apply depending on your location.
