As an animal rescuer for Snake Catchers Adelaide, Ange Broadstock is always ready to help a scaly friend in need. Recently, Broadstock received a call from a local homeowner about a snake on his property. She quickly raced to the scene, eager to assist.
When Broadstock arrived, she scoured the ground for the snake, but couldn’t find anything. Eventually, the homeowner came outside and pointed Broadstock in the right direction. The snake wasn’t in the grass, the man said; he was lurking above them, on the roof.

Sure enough, Broadstock looked up and saw a scaly face staring down at them from over the gutter.

The visitor was an eastern brown snake, a species known for their small heads and tan body color. According to Billabong Sanctuary, eastern brown snakes have some of the most toxic venom in the world. However, they only attack when provoked, and their bites rarely result in fatality. Regardless, these snakes are dangerous and should always be handled by professionals.
With help from the homeowner, Broadstock borrowed a ladder from a neighbor, then climbed up to the roof with her snake hook. She attempted to safely hook the snake, but the animal was too quick, and he maneuvered away, down a pipe. Broadstock used water to try and flush the snake out of the hole, but he wouldn’t budge. The snake, who was over 4 feet long and very thick, curled up in a ball at the end of the pipe, reluctant to move an inch.

Eventually, Broadstock realized they’d have to cut the pipe open. Using an angle grinder, the rescuers carefully sliced into the line, being careful to avoid the animal inside. Finally, Broadstock grabbed the snake, pulled him out and snuggled him safely in her snake bag.

Thankfully, the scaly visitor didn’t sustain any injuries during the ordeal.
“The snake was in perfect condition,” Broadstock told The Dodo. “[S]tunning and very healthy.”
Broadstock released the snake into a suitable habitat nearby. Free from the dangers of humanity, the snake slithered into the wilderness, perhaps feeling glad to be back where he belonged.
