Memphis Grizzlies suspend Ja Morant for one game after tension with coach Tuomas Iisalo following Lakers loss.
The Memphis Grizzlies have suspended Ja Morant for one game due to conduct deemed detrimental to the team.
The decision came after the Grizzlies’ defeat against the Los Angeles Lakers last night, where Morant struggled to find his rhythm and the team fell short once again.
According to Marc Stein, the organization officially announced “Ja Morant has been suspended for one game due to conduct detrimental to the team.”
Further details were shared by Shams Charania, who reported that “the suspension followed a postgame exchange where coach Tuomas Iisalo challenged Morant’s leadership and effort after the Lakers loss on Friday night, and Morant responded in a tone the team viewed as inappropriate.”
The Grizzlies are set to face the Toronto Raptors tomorrow in Canada, and Morant will not be available for that matchup.
Earlier today, Blake Griffin added his own criticism, saying “I didn’t like Morant’s attitude and approach to the game against the Lakers.”
Before the suspension, Morant had appeared in all six games for Memphis this season, averaging 20.8 points, 6.7 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per contest.
