Australia are set to welcome back Glenn Maxwell in a big boost to their middle order, but the bowling attack will have to manage without Josh Hazlewood in the third T2oI in Hobart on Sunday night, starting at 7.15pm AEDT.

Indian opener Abhishek Sharma would not hide his smile when he found in his post-game press conference on Friday night that Hazlewood will sit out the remainder of the five-game series to prepare for a Sheffield Shield outing before the first Ashes Test.

Hazlewood’s departure leaves a massive hole, but Mitchell Marsh’s side will be pleased to slot Maxwell back into the middle order after their limped over the finish line in game two.

Maxwell had been sidelined with a broken arm after a freak training accident in New Zealand last month, but the veteran all-rounder returns to the game for the last three matches of the series having been a speedy recovery after initially targeting the start of the BBL as his return date.

The other addition to Australia’s squad is young tearaway Mahli Beardman, who has enjoyed a rapid rise to a possible debut having only played two matches for the Perth Scorchers in young his career.

Australia have never lost a T20I in Hobart with a perfect 5-0 record at Bellerive Oval, while India have never played a T20I at the venue.
