Shaquille O’Neal is just the latest figure expressing amazement at what Victor Wembanyama is currently doing.
A decade ago, it would have been unthinkable for someone of his height to play the way he does, but Wembanyama is breaking all stereotypes. The San Antonio Spurs are playing excellent basketball, looking unstoppable, and Shaquille O’Neal commented on the young Frenchman’s performances:
“Victor Wembanyama is redefining what a big man can be. Jokic already changed the perception of what a center can do, but Wemby takes it to another level: dribbling between his legs, stepping back, moving like Kevin Durant. He’s playing incredible basketball right now, and I’m happy for him. Happy for the San Antonio organization,” Shaq said, before giving him some advice:
“I would tell him: ‘Just keep going.’ Phil Jackson— I don’t know how he did it— during those three years when we won consecutively, he would come and say: ‘Hey, skip these two games. You need to rest. No parties, no rap spots, no commercials—just rest. But when you come back, I need you to fill 40 years.’ Phil was excellent at managing my game time, my recovery time, and he also kept us away from Utah. I don’t know how, but we always had trouble with Utah before he arrived,” Shaq concluded.
