Katy Perry and her new boyfriend Justin Trudeau are in a good place.

According to a source, the singer-songwriter, 41, and the former Canadian prime minister, 53, are “in the honeymoon phase” and “Trudeau is being incredibly attentive and doing everything to help Perry turn the page on the difficult last few years.”

The source tells Star that “the people close to Perry are rooting for this relationship,” noting her “tight-knit circle of friends and collaborators see the change Trudeau has managed to create in her life in a very short span of time.”

The former American Idol judge — who split from her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, in June — “was in a pretty dark place” about a year ago, says the source, and “Trudeau has become this ray of sunshine in her life in an undeniable way.”

However, the source points out the couple “still have a long way to go,” explaining the Grammy-nominated artist “has a pragmatic side when it comes to relationships, especially when she’s with somebody who is as famous as she is.”

“She’s not a clingy person, and she can walk away if her needs aren’t being met,” the source adds.

As Star previously reported, the “California Girls” hitmaker and the politician — who first spotted together in July — made their first public appearance together last month when they celebrated Perry’s 41st birthday in Paris, France, per photos obtained by TMZ.
