LIV Golf has made changes to its off-season promotions event, moving the tournament to Florida in January and increasing the number of qualifying spots to two.
The additional place comes on top of one added to the International Series Rankings, meaning there are now four available over the next few months.
While that is still one fewer than the number of players relegated from the league at the end of the season, it at least takes LIV in the right direction when it comes to improving player turnover, a prerequisite should officials ever want to return to the subject of seeking world ranking points.
“LIV Golf continues to expand pathways for players around the world to qualify into the first truly global golf league,” Scott O’Neil, the league’s CEO, said. “As fan interest in LIV Golf continues to increase and the opportunity to compete across the US, Asia-Pacific, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East against some of the biggest names in golf grows, it’s only natural that we broaden access for talented, ambitious players to earn their way into the league.”
Switching the promotions tournament to Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, from its previous home in the Middle East, could encourage more elite golfers to take part, while adding a spot to the International Series improves the pathway for members of the Asian Tour.

After last week’s Link Hong Kong Open, Scott Vincent and Miguel Tabuena occupy the top two positions in the series order of merit, while Wade Ormsby, who won in Jakarta last month, is fourth. Lucas Herbert in third is not eligible for the two places as he is already playing on LIV.
