Matthew Carney has been executive producer since 2022 but will remain until a successor is appointed.

Four Corners executive producer Matthew Carney has resigned, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

He has been executive producer since May 2022 and joined ABC in 1995.

ABC News boss Justin Stevens told staff Carney was leaving in the coming months, but would stay until his replacement was appointed.

ABC said Carney’s resignation was unrelated to an investigation into reporter Mahmood Fazal after he co-launched a podcast funded by an online cryptocurrency casino.

The final Four Corners program for 2025 aired last night, winning its slot with 575,000 viewers in National TV Audience.

The long-running current affair show is currently nominated in the 2025 Walkley Awards having won its last Gold Walkley as recently as 2022.

Matthew Carney has won three Walkley Awards, and was previously executive producer of Foreign Correspondent and China bureau chief.
