THE Hyundai Rally1 World Rally Car is the latest car released this week in the new Shell Motorsport Collection, available around Australia and set to get collectors off and racing.

The WRC car is the sixth of eight cars in the collection with one to be released every week over a nine-week period, including cars from Shell’s involvement in Formula 1, NASCAR, Supercars, INDYCAR, the World Rally Championship and Sportscars.

The first car released on October 1 was the Ferrari F1-75, the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship challenger that was driven by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jnr, and the October 8 release was the Shell V-Power Mustang Supercar driven this season by Brodie Kostecki and Will Davison.

The next releases focused on futuristic race machines, with the October 15 release the Nissan Formula E Gen3 car and the October 22 release the hydrogen-fuelled Forze Hydrogen Racing Forze IX, while the most recent release on October 29 was the Team Penske Ford Mustang GT NASCAR Cup Series car.

The WRC sees cars and drivers competing individually against the clock on some of the most demanding roads around the world and across a variety of surfaces, including tarmac, dirt, gravel and snow.

The i20 N Rally1 car is Hyundai’s challenger for the latest generation of rules for the fastest off-road race cars around the world. The WRC introduced Rally1 regulations in 2022 to reduce some of the technical complexity and reduce aerodynamic components and tweaks to engine rules to reduce costs.

However, the new generation of cars are still lightning fast. Rally1 cars all have 1.6-litre turbocharged engines with power capped at around 360hp and 450Nm of torque, with power fed to the road via four-wheel drive and a five-speed manual gearbox.

All of that is housed in a steel spaceframe chassis clothed in i20 N composite fibre panels, with the total package – including the driver and co-driver – weighing in at just 1320kg. That allows the i20 N Rally1 car to accelerate from 0-100km/h in under four seconds.

Shell has been a Technical Partner of Hyundai’s WRC program since 2014, supplying a range of elite lubricant solutions — from gear oils and greases to hydraulic fluids and engine oils — all tailored to meet the technical demands of world-class rallying.

That collaboration has delivered a pair of Manufacturers’ Championships in 2019 and 2020, plus the marque’s maiden Drivers’ Championship for Belgian duo Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe last year.

The Shell Motorsport Collection cars can be purchased from Shell OTR and Shell Reddy Express-branded sites.

Spend $20 or more in-store (on eligible fuel and/or convenience) and customers can purchase each car for $18 retail. Terms and conditions apply. See shell.com.au/modelcars for details.

The cars are Bluetooth remote controlled via a smart phone using the Shell Racing app and need a rechargeable battery, which is sold separately.
