Mount Burr 7/162 def. Furner/Beachport
After a bye and a wash-out, Mount Burr opened their 2025/26 season in the Millicent/Naracoorte Cricket Association on Saturday with a dominant win at home over Furner/Beachport.
Batting first, Mount Burr posted 7/162, led by Marcus McGrath with a classy 54 not out on debut.
The former Glencoe player looked at ease at the crease and displayed an array of shots on both sides of the wicket in his run-a-ball half century.
He received great support from acting skipper Jack Francis (22), Taylor Allen (15) and veterans Adrian Thompson (10 not out) and Nathan Muhovics (19).
Extras contributed a hefty 33 runs to Mount Burr’s tally of 7/162 while Finley Maccoll took the bowling honours with 3/21.
In reply, Furner/Beachport was in trouble early when former Millicent Colts skipper James Watts hit the eighth delivery of the innings on the full to McGrath off the bowling of Thompson for a duck.
There were three other ducks recorded and the visitors were dismissed for 57 in the 22nd over with Naga Wright (3/11) and Thompson (3/25) leading the charge with the ball.
Naracoorte – 8/156 def. Rendelsham 10/144
The newly combined Naracoorte side scraped home to victory on their home deck against Rendelsham by a mere 12 runs after the visitors endured three costly run outs and turfed nine chances.
Having won the toss at Wortley Oval, the home side batted first and reached a defendable tally of 8/156 off their 40 over allocation.
They had six batsmen who reached double figures with Brad Redding top-scoring with 35.
The pick of the Rendelsham bowlers was Varthula De Silva Jayaskera with 3/24.
In reply, Rendelsham looked to be cruising to victory at 1/93.
Openers Ethan Bowman (42) and Ayden Reid (35) had put their team in a strong position but the visitors then lost their next nine wickets for only 51 runs to be dismissed in the last over for 144.
No Naracoorte bowler secured more than two wickets so it was the run outs who determined the outcome.
Home team wicketkeeper Loren Bald had a productive game with three catches and a run out.
Lucindale 3/108 def. Kingston 10/104
Reigning premiers Lucindale had little trouble in disposing of Kingston at home.
The visitors won the toss but were bundled out in the 28th over for only 104.
Five Kingston batsmen reached double figures but only Liam Sibley pushed onwards to top score with 37.
Four Lucindale players took two wickets apiece.
In reply, Lucindale opener Mark Smith made a quickfire half century.
His unbeaten 56 included a six and seven fours.
The target was reached on the first ball of the 23rd over.
