BALLAN Cricket Club’s under-11 Phillips team played against Ballarat/Redan at Ballan on Wednesday night, 29 October.

Captain Annie won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. Noah and Elsie started off and gave BCC a solid start.

Max on debut was next along with Lukas and started to build the innings. It was then over to Annie and Tate who got motoring with their running between wickets, with Jamie, Marcus and Oscar finishing the innings with some big hitting.

The BCC fielding innings was top notch with every single player on their game in the field. Captain Annie led the way with talk and hustle, Oscar and Jamie combined for a run-out and Tate put his body on the line attempting a spectacular catch.

Everyone bowled well, but in particular Lukas, Noah and Elsie all took wickets and Max was unlucky not to get one. Annie and Jamie received the game awards.

The next game was Ballan’s 2nd XI (BCA One Day C Grade) playing Ballarat/Redan at Vic Park 9 – right next to the Red Hot Summer Tour concert with great music playing through the entire game.

BCC’s 2nd XI came home with a win after a tight battle throughout the day, which could have gone either way with good partnerships from both sides.

Ballan, losing the toss, were sent in and amassed a total of 174 with the last wicket falling on the second-last ball of the innings.

It was a first for the Grigg family with father Stuart and son Eamon opening the batting together, getting a great start with a 41-run partnership before Stuart (13) was bowled with a ball that seemed to slowly keep coming after the swing of the bat.

Eamon finished, LBW, on 22 runs.

The next good partnership of 57 was between Matt Ayres (60), Ballan’s acting captain, and Michael Vallance (16) with both players getting some nice, clean shots bringing up regular boundaries. Summer Dehnert also chipped in with a solid 25

U11 Phillips Captain Annie McNiven.

Ballan then opened the bowling with Eamon Grigg, and he got a wicket on the very first ball of the innings before ending with 1/22.

KB was the other opener, finishing with 1/36. Stuart Grigg came on first change, tying down the opposition’s run rate with a miserly 3/15 off eight overs.

The other bowling figures: Summer Dehnert 1/25, John Costello 2/20, Matthew Shugg 10/14 and Matt Ayres 2/18. Matt Ayres put in a great captain’s game to steer the team to victory.
