SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Tennessee State finished last season 10-21 overall and 6-14 in Ohio Valley play. TSU (0-1) opened the year with a road battle at Middle Tennessee on Monday morning, falling 53-59. The Lady Tigers erased a double-digit deficit and briefly led in the fourth after holding MTSU to just six points in the third quarter. Aaniya Webb led TSU with 17 points, followed by Somah Kamara with 11. The Lady Tigers snagged 22 offensive rebounds against MTSU, fueling 17 second-chance points.

 

HISTORY VS. TENNESSEE STATE

This will be the fourth meeting all-time between the Raiders and Tigers; a series Wright State leads 3-0. After an almost two-decade hiatus, the two teams met last year in the Nutter Center with the Raiders coming out on top 77-67

 

LAST TIME OUT

The Raiders came out firing in the first quarter against Butler, making their first three buckets of the game, two of which came from Chard Peloquin. The Raiders continued to fire on all cylinders for the first five minutes of the game, jumping out to a 10-point lead thanks to a 7-0 run. Butler then went on a run of their own to tie the game up at 16 apiece at the end of the first quarter.

 

Butler dominated the second quarter out outscoring the Raiders 20-8. The Bulldogs took the lead with 8:45 remaining in the second quarter and never looked back, holding the lead the rest of the game.

 

Wright State bounced back from a rough offensive second quarter by shooting 40% from the floor in the final 20 minutes. Chard Peloquin led the way for the Raiders in the second half with seven points and rebounds in 12 minutes.

 

RAIDER RETURNERS

Wright State returns eight letter winners off its 2024-25 roster, led by mainstays Claire Henson and Lauren Scott. Also returning are Olivia Brown, Chloe Chard Peloquin, Florrie Cotterill, Ellie Magestro-Kennedy, Abbie Riddle, and Rylee Sagester. The eight returns combined for 55% of the team’s points and 65% of the team’s assists a season ago.

 

Henson started in all 32 games, averaging 27.6 minutes per game…Averaged 9.8 points per game along with 5.6 rebounds per game… Had a season high of 22 points, along with nine rebounds in a 77-66 win vs Tennessee State (11/15) … Reached double-figures scoring in 15 games… Finished the season with 314 points, 180 rebounds, 71 assists, and 34 steals

 

Scott played in 28 games, making 23 starts and averaging 24.9 minutes per game… Averaged 7.5 points per game, shooting 35 percent from the field… Had a season-best of 15 points in a 60-52 win over Oakland (02/19)… Recorded more than one three-pointer in eight games… Reached double-figure scoring in seven games… Finished the season with 211 points, 24 rebounds, 21 assists, and 12 steals… Named a finalist for the Horizon League Sportsmanship Award… Named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. Scott was also named as one of the two Wright State representatives on the Horizon League Student Athlete Advisory Committee

 

NEW FACES

Transfers Breezie Williams and Grace Okih join WSU with some collegiate experience and look to make an instant impact. Also joining the Raiders are true freshmen Elaina Rager and Maja Dilen.

 

Williams, a senior guard from Canton, Ohio, comes to Wright State after spending the 2024-25 season at Bryant University. Last season, Williams appeared in 28 games with 25 starts for Bryant, averaging 27.6 minutes per game. She posted a 37.9% field goal percentage and shot 31.3% from beyond the arc. Williams reached double figures in 10 games, including two 20-plus-point performances, and averaged 9.6 points per game. She recorded at least one assist in 26 contests, notching a season-high five assists on two occasions, most recently against Binghamton on March 6. Williams began her collegiate career at New Hampshire, where she played in and started all but one game as a freshman. She was named to the America East All-Rookie Team and ranked among the conference leaders in steals and assists. In two seasons at UNH, she shot 36.9% from the field and averaged 8.6 points per game.

 

Okih, a senior from Lagos, Nigeria, comes to WSU after spending the 2024-25 season at Incarnate Word. She began her collegiate career at Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas. During her sophomore season at JC, Okih averaged a double-double with 10.4 points and 11.9 rebounds per game, leading NJCAA Region 14 in rebounds and ranking 12th nationally in the NJCAA. She recorded eight double-doubles that season, including a career-high 22 points and 29 rebounds against Coastal Bend CC on January 22, 2024. The 6-foot-2 forward was named Region XIV All-Conference Honorable Mention and was selected as the school’s Women’s Basketball MVP.

 

SIZING UP THE 2025-26 SQUAD

The Raiders return nine players from last season while adding four newcomers (two transfers and two freshmen).

 

The squad features four seniors, three juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen. The roster also expands not only across the nation, with four different states represented (Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin) but across the globe, with three international student-athletes (England, Nigeria, Sweden).

 

LAST SEASON REWIND

The Wright State women’s basketball team finished last season with a 10-22 overall record with a 7-13 mark in Horizon League play.

 

The Raiders would enter the Horizon League Tournament and defeat #9 Youngstown State at the Nutter Center 73-58 before falling to Purdue Fort Wayne 50-64 in the quarterfinals.

 

2023-24 HORIZON LEAGUE RANKS

Last season, the Raiders ranked second in the Horizon League in bench points per game (21.0), third in offensive rebounds per game (10.3), third in free throws attempted per game (16.84), and fourth in defensive rebounds per game (23.9)
