For all the noise in Canberra over net zero, everyone can agree on one big thing – Australia’s environmental protection laws need to be changed.
Various efforts to achieve this are more like a permanent policy debacle, unravelling over years. Environment Minister Murray Watt, Labor’s chief Mr Fix-It guy, is now determined to get a deal by Christmas. That’s still much harder than it sounds.
