Brock Purdy is “getting closer” to returning, says San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, but it likely won’t be this week. The quarterback remained limited in practice this week having not played since Week 4 after aggravating a toe injury.
“I think we’re definitely being more aggressive with him as we go this week, more aggressive than last week,” Shanahan said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “He’s definitely getting better each week, heading in the right direction. Still haven’t decided this week whether we’d rule him out or not. We’ll probably do that tomorrow after practice, but Brock’s definitely getting closer.”

Shanahan added that he’s “pretty confident” Purdy will return sometime this season. Mac Jones will make his eighth start as the 49ers take on the Los Angeles Rams.
There is some good news on Jayden Daniels’ elbow. The Washington Commanders quarterback will not need surgery after an MRI revealed that he does not have any ligament damage in the elbow.
Daniels will not be placed on injured reserve, which would have ruled him out for at least an additional four weeks. The Commanders will re-evaluate the second-year quarterback following the team’s bye in Week 12.
Multiple medical opinions were sought and the Commanders believe Daniels, who is reportedly “feeling a little sore,” could possibly return at some point this season.

Daniels was injured during Sunday night’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Afterward, head coach Dan Quinn said the elbow was not broken, but was unsure of a timeline for return.
Other notable Week 10 injuries:
Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud will miss Week 10 after suffering a concussion last week against the Denver Broncos. Davis Mills will start in his place against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Saquon Barkley returned to practice with the Philadelphia Eagles after suffering a groin injury against the New York Giants in Week 8. Barkley sat out the remainder of that game as a precaution and had an extra week of rest with the Eagles on a bye last week. Head coach Nick Sirianni didn’t give an update on the running back’s Week 10 status, instead deferring to the team’s injury report when it’s released on Friday.
Also back from their bye week are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who will not have the duo of running back Bucky Irving and wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. for another week. Neither player practiced this week and they were ruled out Friday by head coach Todd Bowles. Godwin has missed three games with a fibula injury, while Irving has sat out four games as he deals with foot and shoulder injuries.
After missing Philadelphia’s Week 8 win over the Giants with a hamstring injury, Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown said he expects to play Monday night against the Green Bay Packers.

Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow during last week’s loss to the Seahawks. The Commanders have yet to announce any sort of timeline for a return or if he will play again this season.
According to ESPN’s John Keim, Daniels will not need surgery on the elbow and is only “feeling a little sore.”
The Commanders have their bye in Week 12 after playing the Lions this week and the Dolphins next Sunday.
