CHAPEL HILL, N.C. and ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Saint Joseph’s men’s tennis juniors Othman Bezzaz and Ernesto Ruy had their historic run come to an end in the quarterfinals of the ITA East Sectional Championships on Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, four of their teammates were in action on the first day of the Navy Invitational.
ITA EAST SECTIONALS
Bezzaz and Ruy took to the court against Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer of the host North Carolina Tar Heels with a spot in the semifinals on the line. The pair battled hard, but ultimately fell to the host duo by a 6-4, 6-2 score.
NAVY INVITATIONAL
John Butler and Mark Rubin had strong performances on Friday, combining to defeat a duo from Navy in doubles play before each claiming singles wins over players from the Naval Academy as well.
Hector Fullone and Jakob Gaudreau Barnes also added a doubles win against a pairing from Navy.
Play at the Navy Invitational continues on Saturday.
