Payne Haas is reportedly close to signing a mega deal with rebel rugby competition R360 in what would be a major blow to the Brisbane Broncos and the NRL.

CODE Sports reports Haas is considering a bombshell $3 million a season offer to join the rebel competition, an offer that far exceeds anything he would receive in the NRL.

R360 is on the verge of announcing their first signings and, according to the CODE Sport report, are confident Haas will be the headline act.

Off-contract at the end of 2026, Haas has been free to negotiate with rivals as of November 1. The Broncos are keen to offer Haas a multi-year extension, but they can’t compete with the money on offer from R360.

The 25-year-old would earn $1.2 million should he re-sign at Red Hill before that increases to as much as $1.5 million under increased salary caps in line with a new TV rights deal from 2028.

Should Haas sign with R360 he faces a 10-year ban from the NRL after ARLC boss Peter V’Landys announced severe sanctions in the face of the threat posed by the competition.

Broncos coach Michael Maguire, meanwhile., told CODE Sports Haas was committed to helping the club defend its title in 2026.

“I’m not sure where Payne is with R360, but I know Payne well enough to know he really loves the Broncos,” Maguire said.

“He is a big part of where we are right now with all the players who were able to achieve a premiership this year,” Maguire said.

“He has been through everything at this club and he is passionate about living in Brisbane.

“I don’t know all the details with what’s going on (with R360), but Payne is focused on jumping into another season when the time is right.

Haas has scored 13 tries in 142 games for the Broncos since his debut in 2018 and has also played 17 Origins for the Blues and six Tests for the Kangaroos and Samoa.
