Tyrrell Hatton cut a fairly frustrated figure during his second round at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Friday.

The Ryder Cup hero offered for fans to attempt a simple putt before snapping a club when he found a bunker.

The 34-year-old fired a second-round 72 at the HSBC Championship Yas Links and is currently eight strokes adrift of leaders Tommy Fleetwood and Aaron Rai.

Hatton fluffed a seven-foot putt that would have saved bogey on the 11th hole.

He immediately turned around to the gallery and offered his putter to see if anyone would take the next shot.

The golf star said: “Anyone fancy having a go for me?”

There were ripples of laughter from the watching audience and the moment quickly went viral on social media with thousands of shares and comments.

However, according to Sky Sports’ on course commentator Wayne Riley, there was a reason Hatton was a little frustrated.

He remarked: “The reason why Tyrrell was having a little dummy-spit was because he wanted to speak to a referee to complain about the pin placement.”

It’s unclear if the Ryder Cup star did manage to speak to any official about his complaint.

Hatton then went on to make six pars before a double bogey at the last.

Another standout moment, for all the wrong reasons, was on the par-three 17.

Hatton could not believe he missed the putt

He found the bunker with his tee shot mere inches from being perfect, instead nestling in the trap.

It resulted in him smashing his five-iron on the tee box marker, causing the club to snap.

Hatton did, however, manage to get up and down to save par.

HSBC Championship leaderboard

Fleetwood and fellow Englishman Rai share the lead on 14-under-par at the halfway stage.

The pair have opened up a two-shot lead over their closest rivals at the Yas Links.

Fleetwood won the event in 2017 and 2018.

And he is in a strong position to make it a third title to continue his fine 2025.

His Ryder Cup teammates Shane Lowry is three shots further back in tied-sixth.
