Veteran actress Hema Malini is mourning the loss of a close friend, Zarine Khan, the mother of Zayed Khan and Sussanne Khan. The actress took to social media to share a heartfelt tribute, expressing her deep grief over the passing of someone she considered a beautiful person, both inside and out.
A long and cherished friendship
Sharing a throwback picture on Instagram with Zarine Khan and veteran actor Sanjay Khan, Hema Malini expressed her grief: “Another close, dear friend gone Zarine Khan is no more! Such a beautiful person, both inside and out.” The ‘Sholay’ actress revealed that she enjoyed a great rapport with the family, which has spanned many years. “Both Sanjay and Zarine have been close to me for many, many years always wishing me well, participating in all our family celebrations – birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and always ready to lend a helping hand,” she added.

A personal and professional bond
Hema Malini also praised Zarine Khan for her skills as an interior designer, sharing that Zarine had even designed her home back in the 1970s. “Zarine and another dear friend, Neetu Kohli, were excellent interior designers and designed my home in the 70s,” she recalled. Concluding her heartfelt tribute, Hema Malini wrote, “I will miss her lovely friendship and her presence. My heart goes out to dear Sanjay in this moment of his personal loss.”
Esha Deol mourns her ‘Zarine aunty’
Hema Malini’s daughter, actress Esha Deol, also used social media to mourn the loss. She took to her Instagram Stories to refer to Zarine as “aunty” and express her shock. “My dear Zarine aunty… I’m still shocked & can’t believe you have left us. One of the most beautiful women I’ve known. The strength of your family. Full of love, warmth & beauty in every sense,” Esha penned. She added, “I have known since I was a baby & have always admired you. I will miss you very much.”
Esha Deol extended her condolences to the entire family, writing, “Deepest condolences to my dear Zayed. Farha, Sussanne. Simone. Sanjay uncle. Mali & the entire family. Zarine aunty may your soul rest in peace… Om Shanti.”
