As the Los Angeles Dodgers begin their second consecutive offseason as champions, there is much to be excited about, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

While making an appearance on Disney+’s “The Rich Eisen Show,” Passan made a bold statement regarding the Dodgers’ purported offseason plans, warning the rest of the baseball world about what’s to come.

“They never run it back. They always are looking to add,” Passan said. “The scary part, I think for fans of anyone other than the Dodgers right now, is not only are they returning [World Series MVP] Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Blake Snell, and Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani to their rotation, not only do they still have Emmet Sheehan and Justin Wrobleski, and Roki Sasaki, who by the way is still going to be a starting pitcher, [they have] River Ryan, coming back from major surgery, Gavin Stone, coming back from major surgery.

“What this allows is for the Dodgers, between that and their surplus of minor league outfielders, to go out and make a trade and try and get a big chip from somewhere. I don’t know if that’s a closer. I don’t know if that’s an outfielder, but those are the two obvious places they need to address.”

The Dodgers didn’t have a healthy starting pitching rotation for most of the regular season, namely Snell, Glasnow, and the later-turned-reliever, Sasaki, but as Passan mentioned, there are still other talented arms in the wings.

River Ryan has just four major league starts to his name, but totaled a 1.33 ERA in those 20.1 innings of work. He was recently activated from the injured list after a Tommy John surgery last August.

Gavin Stone was a major piece of the Dodgers’ rotation in 2024, going 11-4 with a 3.53 ERA, but played his final game at the end of August with shoulder inflammation and would later require surgery that October. He is also expected to be back on the mound in 2026.

Perhaps the Dodgers can utilize all the arms they were without in 2025 (or that were out for a considerable amount of time), but Passan sees their mix of pitching and minor league talent as enough for a would-be blockbuster trade.

Only time will tell what the defending champions do this offseason, but with a seemingly endless supply of talent, a warning certainly seems justified.
