History

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The RIT women’s basketball team held off a late surge to defeat Allegheny, 62-60, in a non-conference game, Sunday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED


RIT led 36-27 at halftime after a strong second quarter, outscoring Allegheny 19-9.
The Tigers extended their lead to 14 points late in the third quarter with back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore forward Ben Kayser-Cochran and graduate student guard Hannah Durand. Graduate student guard Sydney Pearson made the score 50-36 with 2:37 left in the third after making the front end of a pair of free throws.
Allegheny mounted a furious comeback in the fourth, scoring 24 points and cutting the deficit to just two with five seconds remaining.
Sophomore guard Caroline Henderson hit a clutch free throw with two seconds left to seal the win for RIT.

 
GAME NOTES


Sophomore guard Maddy Ramsgard led the Tigers with 17 points, including a key jumper with under two minutes to play.
Kayser-Cochran added 14 points, two assists, and two steals.
Henderson and Durand both contributed 10 points in the win.
RIT shot 35.5 percent from the field (22-of-62) and 47.1 percent from three-point range (8-of-17).
The Tigers also outrebounded Allegheny 42-to-40, including 13 offensive boards.
RIT improved to 1-1 on the season.

 
WHAT’S NEXT
The Tigers are off until next weekend, when they compete in the Emmanuel College Tip-Off Tournament in Boston. RIT will face Stevens in the opening game on Saturday (Nov. 15) at 1 p.m.
