Wrexham are ramping up summer transfer business with a third seven-figure transfer now in mind for Phil Parkinson.

Wrexham have secured two signings this summer, both of which have been bargain additions.

Danny Ward joined on a free transfer, and Ryan Hardie joined Wrexham for just £700,000 from Plymouth Argyle.

Reports in April suggested that Wrexham would splash the cash this summer, and fans have been waiting patiently for big-money additions.

There could be three seven-figure signings on the way, with Wrexham closing in on signing Liberato Cacace from Empoli in a club-record move.

Wrexham also want George Thomason in a £1.2million move from Bolton Wanderers, and a third target is now emerging.

The Daily Mail now claim that Wrexham are considering a £3million move for Hull City defender Alfie Jones.

It’s noted that Middlesbrough have been trying to sign Jones, but Wrexham are now looking to swoop in and hijack their interest.

Hull are already set to sell a defender, with Sean McLoughlin on the verge of joining Blackburn Rovers.

Wrexham may test Hull’s resolve over Jones, though, as Parkinson attempts to raid another of his former clubs.

Jones started in the Southampton youth ranks and moved on to Hull City in 2020 after loan spells with St Mirren and Gillingham.

The 27-year-old has now played nearly 200 times for Hull, showing his versatility throughout his time with the club.

Jones predominantly plays as a central defender, but has also played in midfield and even at right back.

Parkinson may fancy adding that flexibility to his Wrexham squad, and Hull’s recent financial issues could give Wrexham hope of a deal.

Alfie Jones could reunite with Andy Cannon, Ryan Longman and Thomas O’Connor

Jones would not come into Wrexham as a complete stranger.

The defender has played with a number of Wrexham players in the past, starting with Andy Cannon.

Jones and Cannon crossed paths at Hull, but only played 10 games together with the Tigers.

Jones’ time with Ryan Longman was a little more extensive, playing 55 times together at Hull before the wing-back’s January move to Wrexham.

The Wrexham player with the most appearances alongside Jones is actually Thomas O’Connor, having played together 67 times.

Not only did Jones and O’Connor play together in the Southampton ranks, but they were also teammates at Gillingham.

Jones and O’Connor could now reunite in Wrexham’s back line, with Parkinson looking into a seven-figure raid on Hull.
