Star jockey Jamie Melham has coped a hefty ban for an incident on Lexus Melbourne Cup day which resulted in fellow rider Blake Shinn suffering an injury.
Two races after her triumph on Half Yours in the race that stops the nation, Melham was on board Fancify in the Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes.
At the 200-metre mark, Shinn was dislodged from his mount She’s Got Pizzazz, while the horse also briefly hit the Flemington turf before getting back to its feet.

Shinn broke his leg and will be out of action for a number of months and Melham will join him on the sidelines after the stewards’ verdict.
She entered a guilty plea to careless riding and will be rubbed out for 30 meetings after stewards found she allowed Fancify to shift when not sufficiently clear of the other horse.

“She’s Got Pizzazz that was bumped and stumbled, resulting in rider Blake Shinn being dislodged,” the report said.
“In assessing penalty, account was taken of her guilty plea, good record, that it was a Group 3 event and the incident resulted in a rider being dislodged.”
Melham’s ban will begin on November 16 and run through until December 17.
The 29-year-old became just the second female jockey to win Australia’s great race after Michelle Payne, while also etching her name into the history books as the first woman to complete the rare Caulfield Cup-Melbourne Cup double.
