Most Australian businesses have not meaningfully introduced artificial intelligence beyond using digital assistants like Microsoft’s Copilot, with adoption well below levels seen in other major economies, according to a survey of companies overseen by the Reserve Bank of Australia.

The survey, which is part of the central bank’s efforts to understand how technology investments are affecting businesses, said the adoption of AI had been “shallow to date, with nearly 40 per cent indicating minimal use so far”.
